Job summary

Larsen & Toubro Limited is seeking an experienced protection relay testing engineer in Saudi Arabia to lead commissioning for utility-scale solar and substations.

You will supervise testing of protection schemes, coordinate with EPCs and utilities, and ensure adherence to IEC/IEEE standards while delivering high-quality handover documentation.

Job Description

Lead and manage protection relay testing and commissioning activities for utility-scale solar PV plants, substations, switchyards, and grid interconnection facilities.

Supervise testing of protection relays, including overcurrent, earth fault, differential, distance, transformer, busbar, and line protection schemes.

Review protection coordination studies, relay setting calculations, protection schematics, single-line diagrams, and control wiring drawings.

Perform and oversee secondary injection, primary injection, functional testing, trip circuit checks, and end-to-end protection testing.

Ensure proper integration and testing of protection relays with SCADA, RTU, and substation automation systems.

Coordinate with EPC contractors, consultants, OEMs, utilities, and client representatives during testing and commissioning.

Manage testing schedules, manpower allocation, equipment availability, and site execution activities.

Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, utility requirements, project specifications, and approved testing procedures.

Troubleshoot protection relay malfunctions, wiring issues, communication failures, and protection scheme abnormalities.

Prepare and review relay test reports, commissioning records, punch lists, and handover documentation.

Ensure calibration and proper use of relay testing equipment, such as OMICRON and Megger test kits.

Implement site safety procedures, permit-to-work requirements, and quality control measures during testing activities.

Provide technical guidance and training to relay testing engineers and technicians.

Support grid synchronization, energization, performance testing, and final project handover.
