Role Overview
As a Resident Engineer for Wallarm API Security, you will serve as the dedicated technical expert embedded with a strategic customer. You will act as the primary bridge between the customers engineering, security, and operations teams and Wallarms product, engineering, and support organizations. Your mission is to ensure successful deployment, optimization, and ongoing operational excellence of the Wallarm platform, while helping the customer improve their overall API security posture. This role combines deep technical expertise, hands‑on implementation, customer advocacy, and security consulting.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Engagement & Technical Leadership
- Act as the primary on‑site Wallarm technical authority for the customer
- Build trusted relationships with security, platform, SRE, DevOps, and application teams
- Translate customer security and business requirements into Wallarm technical solutions
- Provide architectural guidance for securing APIs, microservices, and web applications
Deployment & Integration
- Lead deployment and configuration of Wallarm across customer environments (cloud, Kubernetes, on‑prem, hybrid)
- Integrate Wallarm with CI/CD pipelines, API gateways, ingress controllers, WAFs, SIEMs, and monitoring tools
- Tune policies, detection models, and enforcement modes to minimize false positives while maximizing protection
- Assist with onboarding new applications, APIs, and services into Wallarm
Security Operations & Optimization
- Monitor, analyze, and respond to API security events, attacks, and anomalies
- Help investigate incidents and provide actionable remediation guidance
- Continuously optimize detection rules, attack profiles, and API discovery coverage
- Advise on best practices for API security, OWASP API Top 10, and testing
Advisory & Enablement
- Provide hands‑on training and knowledge transfer to customer teams
- Develop documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures tailored to the customer
- Act as a trusted advisor on API security strategy and maturity
- Represent the customers needs internally to influence Wallarm product improvements
Collaboration with Wallarm
- Serve as the escalation point between the customer and Wallarm Support and Engineering
- Provide feedback on product gaps, feature requests, and real‑world use cases
- Participate in beta programs and advanced feature rollouts when applicable
Required Qualifications
Technical Skills
- Strong experience with API security, application security, or cloud security
- Hands‑on experience with Kubernetes, containers, or microservices architectures
- Familiarity with REST, GraphQL, gRPC, and modern API frameworks
- Experience with Linux, networking fundamentals, and HTTP/TLS
- Knowledge of WAFs, API gateways, reverse proxies, or ingress controllers, NGINX is a plus
- Ability to analyze logs, traffic, and security events
Professional Experience
- 5+ years in a technical role such as Security Engineer, DevOps Engineer, SRE, Solutions Architect, or Support Engineer
- Prior experience in a customer‑facing or embedded (resident) role is strongly preferred
- Experience working with enterprise or highly regulated environments is a plus
Soft Skills
- Strong communication skills with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a customer environment
- Problem‑solving mindset with a focus on practical, real‑world solutions
- Comfortable acting as both an implementer and trusted advisor
Nice to Have
- Experience with Wallarm or similar API security platforms
- Knowledge of OWASP Top 10 / OWASP API Top 10
- Experience with SIEM tools (Splunk, Elastic, Datadog, etc.)
- Scripting experience (Python, Bash, Go, etc.)
- Security certifications (e.g., CISSP, CCSP, GWAPT)
