Job summary

TRACTEBEL ENGINEERING S.A DUBAI BRANCH is seeking a senior electrical engineer to lead design and technical reviews of protection and control systems for FACTS and HVDC projects in Saudi Arabia. The role focuses on AC/DC protection schemes, relay logic, and ensuring compliance with IEC/IEEE standards.

The candidate will conduct modelling, simulation, FAT/SAT activities, and provide mentoring while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver robust protection solutions on complex HVDC

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent from a reputed university.
• Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Control Engineering or related discipline is an advantage.
• Extensive experience in design and review of protection systems for FACTS/HVDC projects.
• Strong knowledge of protection relays, schemes and related standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead and perform design and technical reviews of control and protection systems for FACTS and HVDC projects.
• Review protection philosophies, relay logic, control schemes and functional specs.
• Support modelling, simulation, testing and validation using RTDS and other platforms.
• Coordinate with multiple engineering disciplines and support FAT/SAT, commissioning and troubleshooting.
• Identify risks, gaps and interface issues and propose engineering solutions.
• Provide guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and ensure timely deliverables.

Job description

Lead and perform strong design and technical reviews of control and protection systems strong for FACTS and HVDC projects Design review and validate strong protection relays and protection functions strong associated with FACTS and HVDC systems Develop and review strong AC and DC control and protection schemes strong Analyse protection requirements and ensure appropriate protection functions are implemented for HVDC FACTS equipment and systems Review protection philosophies protection logic control philosophies schematics and functional specifications Perform technical assessments of control and protection system performance under different operating and fault conditions Develop and review control and protection logic and associated technical documentation Support modelling simulation testing and validation of control and protection functions using strong RTDS and other simulation platforms strong Analyse simulation results and identify potential issues related to control protection stability and system performance Apply knowledge of strong automatic control theory digital signal processing analog circuits and digital circuits strong to control and protection system design Review engineering calculations technical reports drawings specifications and vendor documentation Ensure control and protection designs comply with applicable strong IEC IEEE and project-specific standards strong Coordinate with Power System Studies Main Circuit Electrical Equipment Substation and other engineering disciplines Provide technical support during Factory Acceptance Tests FAT Site Acceptance Tests SAT commissioning and troubleshooting activities where required Participate in technical discussions with clients consultants suppliers and project stakeholders Review vendor technical submissions and provide technical comments and recommendations Identify technical risks design gaps and interface issues and recommend appropriate engineering solutions Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers Ensure engineering deliverables meet project requirements quality standards and agreed timelines

Educational Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering / Electrical & Electronics Engineering or equivalent qualification from a reputed university.
• A Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Control Engineering, or a related discipline will be an advantage.

Experience

• ExperienceMinimum 15 years of relevant professional experience in electrical control and protection engineering.
• Extensive experience in the design and technical review of protection systems for FACTS and HVDC projects.
• Proven experience with AC/DC control and protection schemes.
• Experience in HVDC transmission systems, FACTS technologies, and associated control and protection applications.

Technical Skills & Knowledge

• Strong knowledge of electrical power systems and power system protection.
• Strong understanding of FACTS and HVDC control and protection systems.
• Good knowledge of protection relays, protection functions, and protection philosophies.
• Knowledge of AC/DC control and protection schemes.
• Basic to intermediate knowledge of international IEC and IEEE electrical standards.
• Knowledge of automatic control theory.
• Knowledge of Digital Signal Processing (DSP).
• Good understanding of analog and digital circuits.
• Experience with RTDS and other power system simulation platforms is highly preferred.
• Knowledge of software development and simulation environments for control and protection applications will be an advantage.
• Ability to analyse technical data, simulation results, and system performance.
• Proficiency in preparing and reviewing technical reports, specifications, drawings, and engineering documentation.

Preferred Skills

• Hands-on experience with RTDS-based real-time simulation and testing.
• Experience in control and protection system testing and validation.
• Familiarity with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing environments.
• Knowledge of HVDC/FACTS control system architecture and communication interfaces.
• Experience working on international HVDC, FACTS, or EHV projects.
