The position focuses on driving operational effectiveness and aligning business growth strategies with organizational objectives, ensuring impactful contributions to the aviation sector.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design and implementation of the department’s strategy.
  • Establish and implement the function’s operational plans.
  • Participate in Department annual budgeting cycle.
  • Conduct market research for trends and customer needs.
  • Identify and manage strategic partners and stakeholders.
  • Evaluate diverse funding sources.
  • Propose improvements to Department’s policies.
  • Manage and guide direct reports to perform their operations.
Job description
Planning & Strategy
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of the department’s strategy and roadmap by providing function specific inputs
  • Establish and implement the function’s operational plans in support of the department’s overall strategic plan and KPIs
Budget
  • Participate in Department annual budgeting cycle and process
  • Contribute to utilizing Department’s budget effectively, and report accurately on progress made and challenges encountered
  • Investigate and propose implementing strategies that result in positive financial impact for SANS and mitigate financial and operational risks
Market & Opportunity Analysis
  • Review SANS business plans, business cases, and other internal studies to explore new opportunities.
  • Continuous global and regional aviation market research for trends, technologies, and customer needs.
  • Competitor benchmarking against leading international ANSPs to identify best practices and gaps.
  • Exploration of non-regulated markets aligned with SANS’s strengths.
  • Develop & drive implementation of market entry strategies, customer segmentation, and go-to-market plans.
Business Growth Strategy & Services Development
  • Formulation of diversification strategies and growth agenda aligned with corporate objectives.
  • Creation of business cases with revenue forecasts, cost analysis, risk assessment, and ROI.
  • C​ross-functional collaboration for service innovation with Operations, Technology, and Safety.
  • Experimentation with innovative business models beyond fee-for-service.
Strategic Partnerships & Alliances
  • Identification and management of strategic partners and aviation stakeholders.
  • Negotiation of commercial agreements (JVs, consortiums, resellers) to share risks and expand services.
  • Representation of SANS at global aviation forums to strengthen brand and build networks.
Investment & Funding Strategy
  • Evaluation of diverse funding sources (PPPs, venture capital, grants, capital markets).
  • Development of investment proposals and financial models for internal and external approval.
  • Coordination with Finance for feasibility, compliance, and governance.
  • Relationship building with investors, financial institutions, and sovereign funds.
Policies, Processes and Procedures
  • Propose improvements to Department’s policies, and ensure the implementation of procedures and controls across all areas of activity so that all relevant procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering high quality and cost-effective results
  • Monitor day-to-day activities to ensure compliance with stipulated policies and procedures
  • Stimulate subordinates and contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of systems and processes taking into account leading practices, changes in business environment, cost reduction and productivity improvement
People Management
  • Manage, guide and assist direct reports to perform their functional operations in accordance with set policies and procedures
  • Participate in identifying and recruiting key talent for Department
  • Promote a high-performance working environment embracing SANS’s values
