Staff Software Engineer

We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our engineering team in Düsseldorf, Germany. You will drive cross-functional feature initiatives and contribute to the design, development and reliability of our backend systems.

Responsibilities

• Drive one or more cross functional feature initiatives together with Product Managers
• Create best-in-class software architecture and code design; improve design and implementation when you touch something
• Raise the bar regarding automated tests and software security; help us achieve new certifications and implement new tools in our organization
• Identify bottlenecks in our software products and help other less senior engineers with profiling
• Define operational excellence through monitoring, logging and tracing; embrace a you-build-it-you-run-it mentality in the team and the wider organization
• Mentor other engineers and, while not being a people manager, act as a subject matter expert to guide the team

Requirements

• Backend Engineer - 8+ years of hands-on experience building, scaling, and maintaining backend systems that run reliably in production
• Production-Grade Kubernetes Expertise - 5+ years deploying, running, and monitoring containerized applications in Kubernetes environments
• Language-Agnostic Technologist - Proficient across multiple languages (e.g., TypeScript, Python, Golang) and strong software engineering principles
• Deep Systems Knowledge - Expertise in at least three of MongoDB, Redis, PostgreSQL, RabbitMQ, NATS and ability to tune for production
• Testing Champion - Designs and improves automated tests as part of the development process
• Ownership Mindset - Takes responsibility for what you ship, including fixing production issues
• Architectural Visionary - Able to design and evolve large-scale feature architectures and defend your decisions
• Strong Communicator & Influencer - Clear, concise communication to align cross-functional teams
• Autonomous & Impact-Oriented - Thrives in complex environments and delivers meaningful features independently
• Incident Response & Decision Making - Calm under pressure and comfortable being on call for emergencies
