Senior Product Manager (AI Assistant for Visual Studio Code)
Join to apply for the Senior Product Manager (AI Assistant for Visual Studio Code) role at JetBrains
The future of software development is being defined right now. AI is reshaping how millions of developers write, review, and understand code – but the tools of today are only scratching the surface of what’s possible. At JetBrains, we’re building the next generation of AI-powered developer tools, designed to push the boundaries of productivity, creativity, and software quality.
With products like IntelliJ IDEA, ReSharper, and Rider, JetBrains has already transformed how developers work, setting the standard for intelligent coding environments. Now, we’re taking on an even bigger challenge: introducing a full-blown AI Assistant by JetBrains for Visual Studio Code!
To help us do this, we’re looking for a Senior Product Manager who is ready to lead the charge. If you’re passionate about building cutting-edge AI products that will shape the workflows of tens of millions of developers, this is your opportunity to make a lasting impact.
What you’ll do
As a Senior Product Manager, you will lead the development of an AI-powered developer tool with the potential to transform how tens of millions of software engineers write, review, and understand code.
- Shape the product vision and strategy. Define and execute the strategy of AI Assistant for Visual Studio Code. Decide on how AI can fundamentally enhance software development workflows, helping developers be more productive, creative, and efficient.
- Find and iterate toward product-market fit. Identify the most pressing developer pain points that AI can solve and validate solutions through a data-driven, experiment-led approach.
- Bridge AI research and real-world developer needs. Work with AI researchers and top-tier engineers to turn cutting-edge AI advancements into a practical tool that developers will trust and rely on.
- Advocate for the developer experience. Ensure that AI-powered functionality feels natural and intuitive and enhances how developers already work, rather than disrupting their workflows.
- Collaborate with a world-class engineering team. Guide a team of highly skilled engineers and designers, ensuring product decisions align with both technical feasibility and developer needs.
- Drive adoption at scale. Partner with marketing staff, developers, and sales teams to bring the product to millions of developers worldwide, fostering strong engagement and retention.
- Continuously learn from the market. Stay in close contact with developers through interviews, community engagement, and hands-on testing to refine and improve the product.
- Lead through ambiguity. AI in software development is evolving rapidly. You’ll need to make strategic bets, adapt quickly, and guide the team through uncertainty.
What we’re looking for
You’ll thrive in this role if you have:
- Proven product leadership. 5+ years of product management experience, with a track record of launching and scaling products that deliver real value. You’ve led 0–1 initiatives, shaped strategy, and driven execution.
- A deep understanding of software development workflows. You either have hands-on experience as a developer or have worked extensively with engineering teams, giving you an intuitive grasp of how developers think, work, and solve problems.
- Strong AI/ML awareness. You stay ahead of trends in AI-driven coding, developer tooling, and automation. You don’t need to be an ML researcher, but you do need to understand how AI is transforming software development and be excited to push its boundaries.
- A user-first mindset. You believe great developer tools should empower, not frustrate. You’re passionate about an intuitive UX, developer experience, and making AI feel like a seamless extension of how engineers already work.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills. You can rally a team around a vision, translate complex AI capabilities into real-world benefits, and drive alignment across engineering, design, and marketing.
Bonus points if you have:
- Experience with ML/LLMs. You’ve worked on AI-driven products before or have an understanding of how models are built, trained, and integrated into real-world applications.
- A background in developer tooling. Whether it’s IDEs, code analysis, CI/CD, or version control, you understand the landscape and have worked on products built for developers.
- Familiarity with major software development platforms. Experience with IntelliJ IDEA, Visual Studio, VS Code, or similar environments.
