Software Engineer, Android Core Product - Hamburg, Germany

Overview

Speechify’s Android app is the most‑used text‑to‑speech app on the Play Store. As user growth accelerates, we need a Senior Android Engineer to own key features, improve reliability, and shape product direction. This role is ideal for someone who thinks strategically, enjoys fast‑paced environments, and builds user experiences that delight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and ship major features in collaboration with design and product teams.
  • Shape the future of our Android engineering team and architecture.
  • Maintain and improve reliability metrics for core features.
  • Participate in cross‑team discussions (Product, Design, Engineering).
  • Review pull requests and mentor teammates.
  • Handle critical issues and unexpected challenges.
  • Release features and provide nightly builds for QA.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with Android components and at least one Android app.
  • Strong product design intuition and user empathy.
  • Drive to push the boundaries of Android UI/UX.
  • Understanding of testing best practices.
  • Proficiency in Kotlin, Coroutines, Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Jetpack Navigation, and Compose.
  • Experience with Room, custom Views, animations, and JUnit tests.
  • Excellent communication skills and a user‑oriented problem‑solving approach.
  • Self‑driven with a passion for continuous improvement.

Bonus

  • Open‑source Android contributions.
  • Experience with iOS, Web, or Node.js.

  • JUnit, unit and integration testing.
