The Wall Street Journal is seeking an experienced and enterprising journalist to spearhead ambitious coverage of Russia.
Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine made it the central antagonist in a global fight with the West. The war that followed has rippled far beyond the battlefield, reawakening the NATO alliance in support of Ukraine and transforming Russia’s society and economy. The arrival of President Trump has now handed Moscow a potentially decisive role in bringing the war to an end and reaching a rapprochement with Washington that could reset the global balance of power once again.
The Journal has a long track record of distinguished reportage on Russia and the war in Ukraine. The new chief will be expected to uphold that tradition, leading some of the best Russia correspondents in the world from the front. The ideal candidate will be a top-flight reporter with deep experience covering Russia, who can manage a team while delivering high-impact coverage of their own. We’re seeking someone with a track‑record of delivering world‑class enterprise reporting, along with clear strategic thinking, and the maturity to lead.
The job is one of the most high‑profile and challenging roles at the Journal, requiring both an ability to dominate breaking news as well as delivering features that take readers inside Russia and show Moscow’s powerful ability to influence global affairs.
