The opportunity
We are looking for an experienced, strategically minded communications leader to own and accelerate Hitachi Energy’s external communications and media relations across Europe. In this role, you will report to the Region Head for Communications & Government Relations and partner closely with our global media relations and external communications teams to craft and execute a bold, unified narrative that elevates our brand and shapes the conversation in the markets we serve. As Hitachi Energy scales its footprint and steps into new markets, every piece of our external communications – from events, to social media, to press releases and thought leadership articles – becomes a strategic moment to reinforce our reputation and influence. You will drive and oversee external communications in the region, streamline workflows, and seek opportunities to amplify our voice. Being responsible for External Communications and Media Relations for Europe, you will set the agenda, guide local teams, and champion best practices to ensure consistent, compelling communications across all external channels. With strategic insight, creative flair, and operational rigor, you will drive Europe’s external communications to support the company’s growth, influence, and market leadership.
How You’ll Make An Impact
- Develop and execute European media and external communications strategies aligned with business objectives
- Build and maintain strong relationships with top‑tier European, national, and trade media; act as spokesperson when needed
- Create compelling content for press releases, statements, op‑eds, and social media, ensuring consistent messaging
- Drive thought leadership initiatives and campaigns to position Hitachi Energy as an industry leader
- Lead European crisis and incident communications, including planning, execution, and training
- Oversee media monitoring, reporting, and KPI analysis to measure performance and brand awareness
- Manage relationships with external PR agencies and partners, ensuring quality and alignment
- Inspire and guide a small team, fostering collaboration, creativity, and high performance
Your background
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in media relations or external communications in a pan‑European or international context
- Proven track record in developing media strategies, managing crises, and engaging senior stakeholders
- Strong writing and storytelling skills with the ability to craft impactful messages for diverse audiences
- Experience leading teams and managing external agencies in a fast‑paced environment
- Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines
- Analytical mindset with experience measuring communication effectiveness using KPIs and tools
- Fluency in English required; additional European languages are a strong advantage
