Job summary

IHG Hotels & Resorts in Doha is seeking a Washerman to manage guest laundry, hotel linen, and uniforms, ensuring quality, hygiene, and safety in every cycle.

You will operate industrial washing machines, sort items by fabric and soil, select programs and chemicals, load/unload, monitor cycles, inspect results, report damage, and coordinate with Housekeeping, Pressing, and Uniform Room to maintain a seamless guest experience.

Qualifications

• Experience as Washerman, Laundry Attendant, or similar role in hotel or commercial laundry.
• Knowledge of industrial washing machines and laundry processes.
• Basic understanding of fabrics, washing methods, and laundry chemicals.
• Ability to follow safety procedures.
• Basic English communication skills preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate industrial washing machines and related laundry equipment safely and efficiently.
• Sort laundry items according to category, fabric type, color, level of soiling, and required washing process.
• Load and unload washing machines following correct operating procedures.
• Select appropriate washing programs, temperatures, and chemical levels based on garment and linen requirements.
• Ensure all items are properly cleaned and processed according to standards.
• Monitor washing cycles and identify issues affecting quality.
• Inspect linen, uniforms, and guest laundry before and after washing to ensure quality.
• Identify stains or damages and report to supervisor.
• Maintain safety and hygiene throughout the washing area.
• Coordinate with Pressing, Dry Cleaning, Uniform Room, Housekeeping, and other departments.

Your Day to Day

The Washerman is responsible for the proper handling, washing, and processing of guest laundry, hotel linen, uniforms, and other textile items in accordance with established quality, hygiene, and safety standards. The role ensures that all laundry items are cleaned efficiently, treated appropriately based on fabric requirements, and prepared for the next stage of the laundry process while maintaining the highest standards of care and professionalism. Your main responsibilities will include but not limited to:

• Operate industrial washing machines and related laundry equipment safely and efficiently.
• Sort laundry items according to category, fabric type, color, level of soiling, and required washing process.
• Load and unload washing machines following correct operating procedures.
• Select appropriate washing programs, temperatures, and chemical levels based on garment and linen requirements.
• Ensure all items are properly cleaned and processed according to departmental standards.
• Monitor washing cycles and identify any issues affecting quality.
• Inspect linen, uniforms, and guest laundry before and after washing to ensure quality standards are maintained.
• Identify stains, damages, missing items, or special care requirements and report them to the supervisor.
• Ensure correct handling of delicate fabrics and special laundry items.
• Prevent loss, damage, or incorrect processing of guest and hotel property.
• Maintain accuracy when handling guest laundry and departmental linen.
• Follow proper procedures for handling laundry chemicals and cleaning agents.
• Ensure correct chemical usage and dosing according to manufacturer and hotel guidelines.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the washing area.
• Report equipment breakdowns, leaks, or maintenance requirements promptly.
• Follow all health, safety, and hygiene procedures.
• Coordinate effectively with Pressing, Dry Cleaning, Uniform Room, Housekeeping, and other departments.
• Assist with sorting, counting, folding, and transferring laundry items when required.
• Maintain smooth workflow during high-volume operational periods.
• Participate in departmental briefings, training sessions, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Support the team in achieving departmental productivity and service goals.

What We Need From You

Ideally, you'll have some or all of the following competencies and experience we're looking for:

• Previous experience as a Washerman, Laundry Attendant, or similar role in a hotel, resort, or commercial laundry environment is preferred.
• Knowledge of industrial washing machines and laundry processes.
• Basic understanding of fabrics, washing methods, and laundry chemicals.
• Ability to follow instructions and safety procedures.
• Basic English communication skills preferred.
