Job summary

Madre Integrated Engineering is seeking a skilled technician for refractory installation, maintenance, and repair in a steelmaking environment. The role involves handling tundishes, refractory bricks and castables, and operating related equipment according to approved drawings and safety procedures.

Candidates should have a technical diploma and at least 3 years of experience in a steelmaking plant, with hands-on expertise in tundish activities, hot repair, and machinery operation.

Qualifications

• Technical Diploma in a relevant technical discipline from a recognized institution.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a steelmaking plant, preferably in refractory maintenance, tundish preparation, or a similar role.
• Hands-on experience in tundish refractory demolition, relining, refractory repair, brick installation, castable application, and hot repair.
• Practical knowledge of refractory machinery and tools, including mixers, brick cutters, rammers, spray machines, continuous mixers, cranes, and lifting equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documents, with a good understanding of plant/process parameters and basic mathematical skills.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team under pressure and in environments involving heat, dust, heights, and gases, while maintaining strict safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform refractory installation, demolition, repair, and relining of tundishes, covers, slag boxes, steel pots, and other refractory-lined equipment according to approved drawings and procedures.
• Inspect and safely operate refractory equipment and tools, including mixing machines, brick-cutting machines, rammers, spray machines, continuous mixers, cranes, and lifting accessories.
• Receive and prepare new and used tundishes and ancillary equipment, including cooling, removal of worn refractory, slag, dust and steel skulls, cleaning, and relocation to designated areas.
• Apply appropriate refractory bricks and castables, set and align tundish mould templates, perform vibration activities, drying, and hot refractory repairs as required.
• Conduct routine cleaning and inspection of machines, tools, equipment, and work areas after job completion and ensure equipment remains in safe operating condition.
• Coordinate with production and maintenance teams, maintain refractory activity records, and provide clear shift handovers while complying with all safety, environmental, and quality procedures.
