Job summary

ISS International SpA seeks a Senior Static Engineer in Qatar to lead static equipment engineering across capital projects for ammonia and urea facilities. Responsibilities include development of design basis, FEED datasheets, and vendor design reviews, while ensuring compliance with ASME/API codes and Company standards.

The role requires 8–12 years’ experience in static equipment, API/API certifications preferred, and strong cross-functional collaboration and safety awareness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering; 8–12 years in static equipment engineering.
• API 510/570/653 certification preferred.
• Strong knowledge of ASME Section VIII and procurement processes.
• Excellent English communication and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead static equipment sizing and selection during concept and feasibility phases.
• Develop design basis and preliminary datasheets in FEED.
• Review vendor static equipment design packages for compliance.
• Review calculations, drawings, material certificates, and inspection/test plans.
• Participate in HAZOP, SIL, and PSM assessments to address design hazards.
• Prepare and review technical specifications and vendor inquiries for pressure vessels and related equipment.
• Own and maintain company static equipment design standards.
• Interface with other disciplines, Procurement, and EPC contractors throughout the project lifecycle.
• Mentor the Static Equipment Engineer on project scopes.

ISS International SpA is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Static Engineer to join our client in the Fertilizer Industry based in Qatar

Job Purpose

The Senior Static Equipment Engineer leads static equipment engineering for capital projects across the Ammonia and Urea Complex, including pressure vessels, heat exchangers, reformer furnace and tubes, and high-pressure urea/carbamate equipment, from concept and feasibility through FEED, detailed design, and procurement of new equipment. The role-holder is required to promote, follow, and ensure fulfillment of the relevant requirements of the Company's Occupational Health & Safety, Environment, Quality, Process Safety, and Information Security standards throughout all project phases to guarantee the technical integrity, long-term asset reliability, and safe execution of Client capital developments.

Project Development & Concept Design

• Lead static equipment sizing and selection studies during concept and feasibility phases.
• Develop static equipment design philosophy for new units and modification projects, ensuring all designs comply with international codes, process requirements, and Client engineering standards.
• Promote innovative solutions in static equipment specifications to corporate sustainability goals.
• Provide advanced technical expertise and problem-solving support during equipment fabrication, inspection, testing and commissioning to resolve structural or material anomalies and prevent future operational defects.

FEED Development

• Develop static equipment lists, design basis, and preliminary datasheets during FEED.
• Review licensor and contractor static equipment design packages for technical compliance.

Detailed Engineering & Execution Support

• Review detailed static equipment design, calculations, and drawings during EPC execution.
• Resolve technical queries related to static equipment design, materials, and fabrication.
• Review vendor design calculations, material certificates, and inspection/test plans during fabrication.
• Participate actively in cross-functional project safety reviews, including HAZOP, SIL, and Process Safety Management (PSM) assessments, to identify, mitigate, and eliminate potential design hazards related to static equipment.

Procurement Support & Technical Bid Evaluation

• Prepare and review static equipment technical specifications, datasheets and requisition package for pressure vessels, tanks, heat exchangers, columns, reactors, filters, and any pressure equipment.
• Manage the technical evaluation of vendor bids and clarify complex engineering queries during the procurement phase to ensure only technically qualified suppliers are selected verifying compliance with ASME/API codes and Company specifications.

Knowledge Ownership & Standards

• Own and maintain Company static equipment design standards and specifications.
• Capture design and fabrication lessons learned into updated static equipment specifications.
• Manage time, cost, and quality across multiple ongoing projects simultaneously

Project Interface

Manage the technical interface with other Engineering disciplines, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractors third-party engineering consultants during all project lifecycle phases.

Mentoring

Provide technical mentoring and guidance to the Static Equipment Engineer on project scopes.

Educational Qualification & Experience

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent. 8-12 years of static equipment engineering, preferably in ammonia and urea projects, including new equipment specification, technical bid evaluation, and vendor design review. API 510/570/653 certification is preferred. Strong knowledge of ASME Section VIII and project procurement processes and familiarity with engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, PV Elite, CAESAR II) Excellent communication and presentation skills with absolute fluency in English.
