The Sr Digital Media Video Specialist at Northwestern University in Qatar (NU_Q) will be responsible for the installation, operation, repair, and maintenance of complex media systems, including photography, digital cinema, TV broadcast, and multimedia productions, under limited or no supervision. Sr The Digital Media Video Specialist will provide in-class support, including assisting and training faculty and students in the use of facilities and equipment such as Canon Cinema cameras, RED Cinema cameras, DSLRs, ENG systems, and advanced lighting equipment, including Aladdin Bi-flex, ARRI Skypanels, and Apurture COB light fixtures. The candidate will provide close mentoring and instruction to students in the use of production equipment to complete their course assignments. In addition to in-class support, the Sr Digital Media Video Specialist will lead and provide advanced production support for the department’s portfolio of video projects, including training videos, university event coverage, and social media content creation. This includes filming with cinema cameras, gimbals, and sliders. The candidate will be expected to edit video projects using various programs in the Adobe Creative Suite, such as Premiere Pro and After Effects. Work schedules will be flexible and may require evening and/or weekend hours.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Assist and provide support in the day-to-day operation of NU-Q media production facilities and equipment including still photography, digital cinema cameras (Canon, Sony, GoPro, RED), studio and field lighting and grip equipment (Arri, Aputure, ETC), video servers, monitors, audio mixer consoles and microphones, conversion devices, switchers, distribution equipment, radio, TV and news productions, as well as performing diagnostic functions, implementing maintenance actions and installation of the equipment. Supports the operation in the production equipment storage room (The Cage) as needed including equipment check-ins and check-outs, and the Web Checkout ticketing system. Lead, plan, shoot, and edit video content for a wide variety of departmental needs, including live events, social media, academic conferences, and other institutional needs. Provides in-class training and orientation to students, faculty, and staff for all media production facilities including individual and group training sessions as needed. Supports NU-Q faculty in the preparation of course material and/or technology requirements of classes when requested. Provides support for production software used by faculty and students including Adobe Creative Suite, Protools, DaVinci Resolve, ENPS, and other software for audio, video, print, and multi-media production. Supports and assists in the use of production spaces including edit suite, studios and newsroom as needed. For NU-Q special events, assists during set-up, rehearsals, and during the event(s). Duties may include lighting support, camera operation, or any other technical roles as needed. Works with the manager/supervisor on the evaluation of new technologies for use in NU-Q and their applicability to the market and NU-Q programs. Provides recommendations regarding new technologies and their integration into NU-Q programs. Creates workflows, documentations and user guides for various types of equipment. Maintains awareness of evolving media technologies through professional publications, outside contacts, and ongoing professional development. Provides recommendations regarding new technologies and their integration into the NU-Q programs. Assists with non-university related commercial productions utilizing NU-Q production facilities and equipment. This includes possible night and weekend support *Will perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (education, Experience, Certifications, Skills)

Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s or higher degree in production, media technology, or comparable field and significant computerized production; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.

10 years of experience working in a media production environment, such as broadcast news, commercial production, or institutional video production with duties focused on filming, lighting, and editing.

Maintains a portfolio of related video work.

Previous mentoring or teaching experience in either a formal educational or professional in-house environment.

Strong analytical skills.

Ability to lift/move and install equipment up to 20kg (approx. 44.0 lbs) including cameras, lighting, and editing CPUs when necessary.

Ability to maintain respectful and effective working relationships with a variety of parties throughout the University’s community.

Demonstrated organizational skills, ability to take initiative and work independently.

Ability to use both PC and Mac applications.

Fluency in English language.

Excellent video editing skills and an in-depth knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite editing applications.

Understand the fundamentals of production lighting and lighting setup.

Demonstrated knowledge of Mac OS X.

Ability to use both PC and Mac applications.

Demonstrated organizational skills, ability to take initiative and work independently.

Ability to work under pressure and meeting tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications (Education, Experience, Certifications, Skills)

Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s or higher degree in production, media technology, or comparable field and significant computerized production; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.

11-15 years of experience working in a media production environment, such as broadcast news, commercial production, or institutional video production with duties focused on filming, lighting, and editing.

Maintains a robust portfolio of related video work.

Previous teaching experience in either a formal educational or professional in-house environment.

Experience working in a higher education environment.

Fluency in English and Arabic and knowledge of Qatari customs.

Demonstrated knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Illustrator.

Demonstrated knowledge of Network technologies to enable analyzing IT and AV system problems under pressure.

Working knowledge of AR, VR and 360 Video production and equipment.

Ability to prepare documents, white papers and teaching resources on basic and advanced use of media technologies for the university’s faculty members, staff, and students.

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

The target hiring range for this position will be between $80,300 to $103,510 per year. The offered salary will be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data .
