Job summary

Al Jazeera Plus is seeking a producer for the AJ+ Reports Field Team to develop, report and deliver hard-hitting videos for a global Gen Z audience across platforms. You will own stories end-to-end from idea to publication, manage field operations and adapt edits to social formats while maintaining AJ+ editorial standards.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years in newsrooms, strong scripting ability and experience with Premiere Pro.

AJ+ is looking for a producer to join the award-winning AJ+ Reports Field Team. The successful candidate will be full of ideas, have solid editorial judgment and an understanding of AJ+'s editorial mission. They will also be a creative, visual storyteller with the ability to produce engaging, impactful videos that deliver audiences across our online platforms. Working closely with the Executive Producer, you will create in-depth, hard-hitting, originally-reported videos for a diverse, global, primarily Gen Z audience across social platforms. Producers on the Field Team own their stories end-to-end: from the initial idea and pitch, through field reporting and scripting, to final publication and social rollout. The role requires someone who has the initiative to run their projects, under the guidance of the Executive Producer, and the ability to multitask. You will also be comfortable editing in different styles to suit our various social platforms. AJ+ Reports often works to tight deadlines, breaking news cycles and quick turnarounds. You'll need to work quickly, think on your feet, maintain a strong creative and editorial eye, and remain calm under pressure.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Working under the Executive Producer for Field to produce videos for AJ+ Reports from start to finish, including development, pitching, pre-production, production, scripting, editing and publication.

Regularly pitch original, field-led stories that align with AJ+’s editorial mission, with a particular focus on the Global South.

Identify stories, characters and angles that will deliver impact across YouTube and social platforms and resonate with AJ+’s core audience.

Write strong, compelling scripts for YouTube and other social platforms, with clear narrative arcs, rigorous sourcing and our distinctive AJ+ voice.

Produce accompanying short-form content for platforms including Instagram, TikTok, X and Facebook, adapting storytelling and framing to each platform.

Maintain an excellent eye for detail, ensuring that all pieces are factually accurate, thoroughly sourced and compliant with AJ+ editorial guidelines.

Provide clear sourcing and documentation for scripts and key claims, and work closely with editors to ensure legal and editorial robustness and compliance.

Develop and manage relationships with contributors, fixers, and VJs, both remotely and in the field.

Give clear editorial, visual and logistical direction to field crews, whether on location or remotely.

Ideally bring experience operating in or coordinating coverage from hostile or high-risk environments, and must have strong awareness of the newsgathering challenges and duty-of-care considerations in such contexts.

Ensure that all AJ+ Reports content is consistent with AJ+’s editorial identity, tone, and strategic goals.

Uphold AJ+ editorial guidelines, ethics and values in all stages of production, from reporting and scripting to visuals and social framing.

When required, stand in for the Executive Producer in the EP's absence, helping manage the slate, workflows and editorial sign-off in coordination with senior leadership.

Ensure that pieces produced are consistent with AJ+'s editorial identity, tone and strategic goals.

Uphold AJ+ editorial guidelines, ethics and values in all stages of production, from reporting and scripting to visuals and social framing.

rEQUIREMENTS& QUALIFICATIONS

Fluency in English is required.

Arabic fluency, or knowledge of other languages, is beneficial.

Previous experience hosting on camera or working closely with hosts/correspondents is desirable.

Proven experience in video journalism, field reporting and/or documentary-style production.

Demonstrated ability to originate stories, report them out, and shape them into compelling visual narratives.

Strong understanding of digital-native video formats and what works for YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and X.

An ability to operate cameras and filming equipment in the field is beneficial.

Strong writing and scripting ability for video, with a clear, concise, accessible style.

Ability to write accurate, engaging headlines and social captions that reflect AJ+ editorial standards.

Strong editing abilities using Adobe Premiere Pro, ability to produce an edit from inception to export and edit in different styles dependent on the social platform.

Clear understanding of AJ+'s editorial identity and style, and the ability to reflect that in day-to-day decisions.

Sound editorial judgment on a broad range of global issues, and a keen awareness of news events and the way they interrelate, especially within the Global South.

Strong sense of ethics, verification, and responsible storytelling, particularly in conflict and crisis coverage.

Strong grasp of newsroom workflows, field coordination and cross-functional collaboration (e.g., with social, design, audience and legal teams).

Ability to prioritize, manage multiple projects and deliver under tight deadlines.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a collaborative approach to working within a diverse, global team.

Education & Experience

Either formal journalistic training (such as a Bachelor’s/ Master’s degree in journalism), or proof of equivalent professional experience.

Minimum 2+ years' experience in a newsroom, or role in video-led journalism.
