Job summary

Mekdam Technical Services in Mesaieed Refinery seeks a Sr. Technician (Inspection) to assist the Inspection Engineer with visual and NDT inspections, prepare detailed reports, and support TA activities to ensure safe operation of refinery assets.

The role requires hands-on inspection of equipment, tanks, piping, PSVs, and thermography surveys, plus supervising technicians. Candidates should have 7 years in inspection within petrochemical industries and relevant certifications.

Qualifications

• 12 years of education plus a 2-year diploma in Metallurgical/Mechanical Engineering.
• 7 years' experience in inspection or corrosion monitoring in petrochemicals.
• Certification in BINDT-PCN / TWI-CSWIP / ASNT ACCP / ASNT CP-106 / EN-ISO 9712 or equivalent; Level II in UT, PT, MT.
• Additional RT, RTFI, API or AWS certifications are an advantage.
• Familiar with relevant inspection and NDT codes, standards, and practices.
• Good command of written and spoken English; computer literate.
• Valid Qatari Driving License.

Responsibilities

• Carry out on-stream, planned and unplanned inspection and testing of station ary equipment, storage tanks, piping, pipelines, structures and PSVs.
• Perform NDT inspection and testing of pressure equipment and piping using approved procedures.
• Draft inspection reports detailing work, procedures, tests and results with recommendations.
• Assist Inspection Engineer and Sr. Plant Inspection Engineer for TA inspections and post-TA activities.
• Maintain and update historical records and data on equipment and pipe-work.
• Perform thermography survey of refinery heaters and equipment.
• Draw updated inspection isometrics with inspection points for piping surveys.
• Supervise technicians/contractors as required.

Base Location: MESAIEED REFINERY
Reports to: SR. INSPECTION ENGINEER

Primary Purpose of Job:

To assist Inspection Engineer & Sr. Plant Inspection Engineer in carrying out inspection (Visual and NDT) as well as performing inspection activities as instructed; and prepare detailed inspection reports.

Principle / Key Responsibilities:

1. Carry out On-stream, Planned and Unplanned Inspection and testing of Stationary equipment, Storage Tanks, Piping, Pipelines, Structures and PSVs of QatarEnergy Refinery (in assigned units) as planned / instructed to ensure safe operation of the assets.
2. Carryout NDT inspection and testing of pressure containing equipment piping, PSVs, pipelines etc. with the use of non-destructive testing equipment and with reference to approved procedures. Carryout inspection/NDT at vendors shop as instructed to ensure inspection compliance.
3. Assist Inspection Engineer and Senior Inspection Engineer to carryout inspection; draft inspection reports detailing the works carried out, procedures followed, tests made and their results after inspection and suitable recommendations to ensure the job completion within the period.
4. To assist Inspection Engineer & Sr. Plant Inspection Engineer to carry out all preparation for TA, perform TA inspection/NDT as per relevant code/standards/practices and complete all post TA activities till start up and close out of TA jobs.
5. Maintain and update historical record and data on equipment, relief valves & pipe-work to keep updated inspection records and status.
6. Perform thermography survey of Refinery heaters and equipment.
7. Draw updates of inspection isometric with inspection points as directed, for piping surveys to ensure proper tracking of inspection activities.
8. Supervise technicians/contractors as required.

Qualifications & Experience:

1. Completion of 12 years of education plus 2 years diploma course in Metallurgical/Mechanical Engineering.
2. 7 years' experience in inspection or corrosion monitoring functions within a petrochemical industry, with some adequate exposure to supervisory duties and responsibilities. Out of which 3 years' experience should be post NDT certification.
3. Certification in BINDT-PCN / TWI-CSWIP / ASNT ACCP / ASNT CP-106 / EN-ISO 9712 or equivalent; Level II in UT, PT, MT.
4. Certification in RT, RTFI, API, AWS will be added advantage.
5. Be familiar with relevant inspection and NDT codes, standards, and practices.
6. Good knowledge of written and spoken English.
7. Computer literate.
8. Candidate should have a valid Qatari Driving License.
