Job summary

Mekdam Technical Services in Qatar is seeking a Sr. Instrument Technician (INST) to perform troubleshooting, preventive and corrective maintenance, calibration and repair of field instruments across refinery units.

You will follow safety and maintenance standards, coordinate with engineers and contractors, and ensure downtime is minimized. The role requires a Diploma in Instrumentation/Control Systems and about 10 years of experience in refining, oil & gas or petrochemical industries, with

Qualifications

• Diploma in Instrumentation/Control Systems Engineering required.
• Around 10 years of experience as Instrument Technician in Refinery, Oil & Gas or petrochemical industries.
• Knowledge of international standards and instrumentation best practices in refining/oil & gas.
• Excellent spoken and written English.
• Proficiency in MS Office and computer operations for daily logs/history.
• Valid Qatari Driving License required.

Responsibilities

• Execute preventive, breakdown and corrective maintenance for field instruments.
• Receive planned preventive/corrective maintenance orders and perform tasks.
• Obtain permit to work, ESP bypass, tools, test equipment and spare parts per job priority.
• Provide status updates, maintenance history and issues to Senior Instrument Engineer; support SAP entries.
• Coordinate with other sections to create sub-orders for complete tasks.
• Supervise installation of new instruments by contractors and hand over discrepancies for punch list.
• Support Instrument Technicians and General Technicians to troubleshoot problems.
• Participate in standby/on-call to support operation team during emergencies.
• Supervise shutdown contractors during shutdown activities and inspection.

Category of Personnel: SR. TECHNICIAN (INST)

Reports to: SENIOR INSTRUMENT ENGINEER

Primary Purpose of Job:

Carries out troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, overhaul and calibration of different types of field instruments installed in any plant/unit of Refinery as assigned by Lead Instrument Engineer.

Principle / Key Responsibilities:

1. Execute preventive, breakdown and corrective maintenance jobs including troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, overhaul and calibration of different kinds of field instruments in assigned plant/units.

2. Receives pegboard with planned preventive/corrective maintenance orders.

3. Obtain permit to work, ESD bypass, tools, test equipment, spare parts and executes maintenance jobs as per job priority in line with Refinery maintenance practices, HSE rules and regulations.

4. Provides status of jobs, maintenance history, spare parts used and any problems noticed during execution to respective senior instrument engineer. Also, attends important corrective order jobs as assigned priority in SAP.

5. Reports any requirement of additional support from other sections in order to create sub-order to complete assigned job effectively.

6. Provides instrument data sheet, nameplate details to order new spare part for non-stock items. Inspects material at warehouse and provide feedback to respective senior engineer on its acceptance.

7. Coordinates and supervises installation of new instruments by contractors through modification/projects and hand over discrepancies to respective senior instrumentengineer to issue punch list.
8. Supports and provide technical assistance to Instrument Technician and General
   Technicians to troubleshoot technical problems.
9. Participate in Standby/on call assignments, to be readily available in order to
   support the operation team for emergencies.
10. Supervises shutdown contractors to execute control valves and other critical
    maintenance activities during shutdown. Attends any instrument problem during
    plant start-up after shutdown.
11. Executes all maintenance activities in a safe manner in line with relevant
    International/Corporate Standards, Engineering/Maintenance practices, Health &Safety regulations.
12. Fully complies with instructions given in permits and uses suitable test equipmentin hazardous area.

Qualifications & Experience:
1. Diploma in Instrumentation/Control Systems Engineering from a well-recognized
College/University.
2. A minimum 10 years experience as Instrument technician in Refinery, Oil & Gas
or petrochemical industry.
3. Knowledge about International Standards and Best practices of Instrumentation in
Refining, Oil& Gas and Petrochemical Industries is an added advantage.
4. Should be highly proficient and have excellent command in spoken/written English.
5. Should have excellent skills in Computer operation and MS office which is required
for maintaining day to day log and history of maintenance.
6. Candidate should have a valid Qatari Driving License.
