Job summary

Brunel in Doha is seeking a Senior Machinery Design Engineer to lead detailed design, commissioning and start-up of heavy duty gas turbines and allied equipment in mechanical drive and power generation projects.

You will coordinate across disciplines, guide EPC contractors, work with major vendors, ensure safety and quality, and oversee field execution, check sheets, punch lists and pre-startup activities. This role requires strong leadership in a complex industrial setting.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate detailed design, commissioning and start-up of heavy duty industrial gas turbines in mechanical drive and power generation service.
• Manage large (>20MW) industrial centrifugal compressors, turbo-expanders and hydraulic turbines.
• Coordinate design across disciplines to ensure deliverables meet project safety and quality standards.
• Provide guidance to EPC contractors to resolve ambiguous specifications and ensure timely completion.
• Liaise with key vendors (e.g., Baker Hughes, Flowserve, Elliott-Ebara, Mitsubishi) to align objectives.
• Ensure field execution at site, develop commissioning check sheets, manage punch lists and pre-startup checks.
• Oversee dry gas seal system commissioning, piping alignment, shaft alignment, lube oil flushing.
• Identify performance deficiencies and initiate warranty claims where needed.
• Develop plans and procedures including safety considerations for machinery execution.

Job description

• Facilitate detailed design, commissioning and start-up of heavy duty industrial gas turbines in both mechanical drive and power generation service., large (>20MW) industrial centrifugal compressors, turbo-expanders, hydraulic turbines, LNG submersible pumps, large API (>2MW)vertical pumps, API centrifugal pumps, rotary screw pumps and compressors, magnetic bearings, dry gas seals, etc.
• Head machinery design and coordination to ensure engineering deliverables meet project requirements ensuring alignment with safety standards and quality objectives.
• Coordinate machinery design across disciplines, reviewing and prioritizing work activities in conjunction with Engineering Manager and Heads of Process, Electrical, Mechanical, disciplines as well as Operations and Engineering Advisors to ensure that project deliverables are met.
• Provide technical guidance to EPC contractor for timely completion of machinery design and execution plans, per project specifications, offering clear direction when project instructions or specifications are ambiguous.
• Support interfacing and work coordination between key vendors (Baker Hughes, Flowserve, Elliott-Ebara, Mitsubishi, etc) and EPC contractor to ensure quality and execution objectives are met.
• Ensure field execution at site meets project plans. Develop, review, and execute commissioning check sheets, checklists for systems completion. Manage punch lists and closeouts and conduct. pre-startup checks for machinery.
• Facilitate dry gas seal system commissioning, machinery piping alignment, machinery shaft alignment, solo runs, lube oil flushing, soft-foot check, coupling installation check.
• Identify deficiencies in performance of machinery against contractual requirements and initiate and fully define warranty claims.
• Develop plans and procedures, incorporating design safety aspects to mitigate any safety risks associated with machinery execution activities.
