Job summary

Petrotec Group in Qatar is seeking a Design Engineer to develop, optimize, and refine LV switchboard designs ensuring manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with client specs and production capabilities.

You will create detailed drawings, perform calculations and simulations, collaborate with production and QA teams, and lead design reviews while maintaining comprehensive technical documentation for successful project delivery.

Qualifications

• Graduate or Diploma in Engineering (Electrical/Instrumentation/Electronics or related)
• Experience in LV switchgear design and protection schemes
• Ability to interpret customer specifications and develop cost-effective technical solutions

Responsibilities

• Create detailed engineering designs, drawings, and specifications for LV switchgear and panels.
• Collaborate with production, QA and procurement to ensure designs are practical and cost-effective.
• Perform design calculations, simulations, and prototype testing to validate concepts.
• Optimize existing designs to improve manufacturability, reduce costs, and enhance performance.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company guidelines.
• Prepare BOMs, assembly instructions, and maintenance manuals; support design reviews and production trials.
• Suggest process improvements and liaise with clients for design changes.
• Stay updated with manufacturing technologies and design software.

Job Summary:

The Design Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and refining product designs to ensure manufacturability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. The role involves ensuring that designs align with production capabilities, quality standards, technical specifications, and client requirements while supporting continuous improvement and successful product delivery.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Create detailed engineering designs, drawings, and specifications suitable for the process.
• Collaborate with production, quality, and procurement teams to ensure designs are practical and cost-effective.
• Perform design calculations, simulations, and prototype testing to validate concepts.
• Optimize existing product designs to improve manufacturability, reduce costs, and enhance performance.
• Ensure designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and company guidelines.
• Prepare technical documentation, including bills of materials, assembly instructions, and maintenance manuals.
• Participate in design reviews, production trials, and problem-solving initiatives.
• Suggest process improvements and innovative design solutions to enhance efficiency.
• Liaise with clients and project teams to understand requirements and implement design changes as needed.
• Stay updated with manufacturing technologies, design software, and industry best practices.

QHSE Responsibilities:

• Comply with all QHSE standards, policies, and procedures relevant to your work.
• Actively participate in QHSE meetings and complete all required safety inductions and trainings.
• Identify and report unsafe conditions; take corrective action where possible within your scope.
• Follow guidance provided by QHSE officers and use PPE and emergency equipment correctly.
• Support a safe work environment by cooperating with safety practices and encouraging others to do the same.
• Refer to the OHSMS Manual, Section 4.4.1, for further clarification on individual QHSE responsibilities and accountability.

Education

• Graduate or Diploma in Engineering, preferably in Electrical, Instrumentation, Electronics, or a related field.

Experience:

• 7–8 years of experience in designing complex LV switchboards, including IMCS and communication systems using the latest digital numerical protection relays.
• Experience working on Oil & Gas projects will be an added advantage.
• Experience with Eaton products will be preferred.
