Job summary

Telford Offshore is seeking a skilled Electrical Technician to perform maintenance, testing and repair of vessel electrical systems in Doha, Qatar. You will assist the Chief Electrician in maintaining power generation and distribution, troubleshooting motors, switchboards and MCCs, and ensuring compliance with safety procedures.

Responsibilities include fault-finding, maintaining emergency systems, supporting DP trials and ensuring accurate documentation of all inspections and repairs.

Qualifications

  • Must hold an Electro Technical Rating certificate as per STCW III/7.
  • Valid offshore medical certificate is required.
  • Experience with electrical maintenance on marine/offshore vessels is preferred.

Job description

Responsibilities:
  • Carry out planned and corrective maintenance, inspection, testing and repair of electrical equipment and systems onboard the vessel.
  • Assist the Chief Electrician in maintaining the safe and reliable operation of the vessel's electrical generation and distribution systems.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot electrical motors, starters, switchboards, motor control centres, transformers, circuit breakers, electrical panels and associated equipment.
  • Carry out maintenance and fault-finding on electrical control systems.
  • Carry out electrical maintenance on cranes, winches, deck machinery and other offshore equipment as applicable to the vessel.
  • Assist in maintaining emergency electrical systems, including the emergency generator, emergency lighting, alarms and associated safety systems.
  • Perform routine testing, including insulation resistance testing, continuity testing, earth-fault monitoring and other electrical safety checks.
  • Identify and troubleshoot electrical faults and report defects promptly to the Chief Electrician.
  • Immediately report any electrical defect or equipment failure that could affect vessel safety, DP capability, redundancy or operational availability.
  • Assist with electrical isolations and ensure procedures are correctly followed.
  • Ensure maintenance activities are performed in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations, company procedures and applicable class and statutory requirements.
  • Complete assigned Planned Maintenance System (PMS) tasks accurately and within the required timeframe.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, testing, repairs and equipment defects.
  • Assist with the inspection and maintenance of electrical spare parts, tools, consumables and testing equipment.
  • Ensure electrical workshops, work areas, tools and equipment are maintained in a safe, clean and orderly condition.
  • Assist the Chief Electrician with DP trials, FMEA proving trials, class surveys, client inspections and technical audits as required.
  • Support testing of electrical equipment following maintenance or repair before equipment is returned to operational service.
HSSE Responsibilities:
  • To stop any person from performing an unsafe act.
  • Promote correct HSE behaviours through personal example. Take action upon any health, safety and environmental matter brought to their notice, and report to their Manager on any matter which they are unable to rectify.
  • Ensure that the workforce under their control is adequately trained, competent and authorized for the operations which they are required to perform and kept informed of all relevant information to ensure their health and safety. Carry out appropriate induction training.
  • Maintain awareness Sub-Contractor activities, interfaces and the associated risks.
  • Ensure a safe working environment for employees under their control. Assist in all safety inspections to ensure that the workplace is maintained in a safe and tidy condition. Ensure as far as is reasonably practicable that the workplace is kept free of potential hazards.
  • Ensure that risk assessments are carried out. Evaluate processes and activities for the presence of hazards. Assess record and control the subsequent risk to a tolerable level.
  • Conform with the emergency procedures applicable to their place of work. Ensure that the workforce is aware of, and understands, the emergency procedures.
  • Facilitate effective two-way communication with the workforce on HSE issues.
  • Conduct Toolbox Talks and Pre Job Safety Meetings. Attend HSE Meetings and ensure workforce participation.
  • Remain aware of the relevant HSE legislation relevant to their operations.
  • Ensure all safety devices provided are utilized and maintained, protective equipment is worn, safety rules are observed and safe working practices applied. Ensure correct equipment usage, inspection and effective maintenance.
  • Report and investigate all accidents and dangerous occurrences, including environmental incidents in the area of responsibility.
  • Ensure that operations are conducted in compliance with health, safety and environmental legislation and Company policy, plans and procedures. Ensure workers under their control are kept informed of all relevant information to ensure their Health and Safety, and the protection of the Environment.
Certification:
  • Electro Technical Rating Certificate as per STCW Regulation III/7/
  • Valid Offshore Medical Certificate.
  • Training & certification in accordance with the TOL Training Matrices.
