Job description

Electrical Assistant Technician

This position is a unique opportunity with many advantages in the Oil and Gas sector, part of a long-running project with QatarEnergy. The project includes multidisciplinary maintenance and operation tasks in a large industrial area.

Responsibilities

• Operation and maintenance of complete electrical systems, including supervision, planning, scheduling, and inspection.
• Hands-on experience in all types of electrical system equipment and control system maintenance.
• Monitoring computerized maintenance system: handling notifications and work orders.
• Operation & maintenance of HV & LV distribution network.
• Maintenance of switchgear, transformer, generator protection philosophy and testing of protection devices.
• Maintenance of neutral & equipment earthing system.
• Operation & maintenance knowledge of UPS, battery charger, battery banks.
• Maintenance of SCADA, fiber optic cable, switchgear protective devices.
• Hands-on experience with work permit system in the Oil & Gas industry.
• Management of a repair department, perform preventative work, and follow safety protocols.
• Commitment to safe work culture and practices.
• Maintenance tasks, installing, performing diagnostic tests, developing maintenance plans, troubleshooting malfunctions, documenting processes, maintaining service records, monitoring parts availability, optimizing efficiency, maintaining a tidy work environment, adhering to industry regulations.
• Plant maintenance experience on HV substations, switchboards up to 6.6 kV, motors, and UPS, thyristor rectifiers, and general plant electrical utilities.

Qualifications

• Trade certificate in Electrical or higher. Minimum 5 years experience in electrical machines, power system in Oil & Gas industry or equivalent.
• Familiar with different electrical systems, equipment, components, and in-service specifications.
• Capable of troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and equipment.
• Hands-on experience in HV & LV distribution network and neutral & earthing system.
• Experience with numerical relay protection, transformer maintenance, MV & HV cable jointing, vacuum breaker maintenance, MV motor maintenance, and operation/maintenance of MV motor.
• Experience with PLCs, HVAC, instrumentation and computer-based man-machine interfaces is preferred.
• Experience at 415 V, 6.6 kV, 11 kV, 33 kV and 132 kV is highly desirable.
• Computer literacy and familiarity with MS Office (2000+).
• Knowledge of switchgear, transformer, generator protection philosophy and protective device testing.Knowledge of UPS, battery charger, battery banks.
• Familiar with hand tools, fasteners, and other equipment.
• Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Strong documentation and communication skills.
• Organization, time management, attention to detail, problem-solving.
