The Research & Development (R&D) business unit leads the technology development of our wind turbine products. We are responsible for its development, verification and industrialisation. It is here that we lay the technological foundation for sustaining our market position within sustainable energy.

The Generator submodule consists of highly skilled employees, situated at our main locations in Denmark, Germany, and Portugal. The department is accountable for the generator, converting the mechanical energy from the wind turbine rotor and drivetrain into raw electrical power. The team is characterised by Vestas values: Accountability, Collaboration, Simplicity and Passion, which form the backbone for our culture of working toward excellence.

In the Generator submodule, we build our designs on a long tradition of both in-house and externally supplied generator products, of both induction & synchronous types. We focus on providing solutions with predictable performance, reliability, and cost to the market. Within this exciting and challenging environment, we have an opening for a generator engineer to join and help form our mechanical/structural team.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the development of solutions for the generator product, following Vestas's project framework and Stage/Gate models. Your responsibilities will be structural design, analysis and validation of the load‑carrying elements of our generator designs. You will work with advanced tools such as ANSYS Mechanical, Windchill and Jira, in collaboration with technical experts and project managers.

Main activities under this responsibility will include:

  • Product development, from requirements and early concept to detailed design and verification
  • Product maintenance, including implementation of improvements and/or cost‑out opportunities
  • Stakeholder management, involving external suppliers globally
  • Planning of own work in Jira
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical or structural engineering
  • 3‑5 years of relevant experience in product development and structural engineering
  • Experience in design of steel structures, including base materials, castings, weldments and bolted connections
  • Proficient in structural assessment using FEA (preferably ANSYS). This includes static/stationary and dynamic analysis, extreme and fatigue analysis, and modal analysis
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
  • Knowledge of Six‑sigma tools, e.g., DFMEA
  • Experienced in managing complex problems in a global project organisation
  • You have a solid technical understanding and can document and communicate your work, thoughts, and ideas well
  • You are motivated, persistent, result‑oriented, and have a good sense of responsibility
  • You can plan your own work
  • You acknowledge the importance of business processes, including engineering change management
What We Offer
