Referment is seeking a hands-on Software Engineering Lead in Portugal who blends development with architectural oversight. You will design and implement .NET Core services in Azure, deliver reliable financial workflows, and guide a small delivery team.

You’ll shape technical standards, mentor engineers, and improve how software moves from development into production. This role can be remote within Portugal or hybrid from the Portimão office, balancing delivery speed with security and reliability.

Qualificações

Referment is working with a financial technology business providing cross-border payments, multi-currency accounts and currency risk management for organisations with complex international operations.

As Software Engineering Lead, you'll combine hands-on .NET development with architectural responsibility and guidance for other engineers. The systems you build support financial operations where security, reliability and clear controls matter as much as delivery speed.

You'll work with Product, Operations and Engineering to turn business requirements into maintainable services in Azure. The remit includes shaping technical standards, mentoring engineers and improving how software moves from development into production. You can work remotely within Portugal or choose a hybrid arrangement at the Portimão office.

The Role

• Design and build .NET applications and cloud-native services that support account management, payment routing and related financial workflows.
• Shape system architecture, balancing performance, resilience, security and maintainability as requirements evolve.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions so releases are reliable and repeatable.
• Guide engineers through technical decisions, mentoring and code reviews while remaining actively involved in development.
• Work with product and operational colleagues to clarify requirements, manage delivery priorities and make practical engineering trade-offs.
• Investigate incidents and their root causes, using the findings to improve system stability, monitoring and performance.

What We're Looking For

• Strong hands-on C# and .NET Core experience; the preferred background includes five or more years in .NET development.
• Experience leading or mentoring engineers within a delivery team, with the ability to explain decisions to technical and non-technical colleagues.
• Practical Azure experience and a sound understanding of cloud-native architecture, clean design principles and scalable systems.
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, ideally with GitHub Actions.
• A structured approach to Agile delivery and the judgement to balance engineering standards with competing delivery priorities.

Useful Additional Experience

Fintech or regulated environments would be helpful, as would experience with distributed systems, microservices, Docker or Kubernetes. Exposure to Blazor or React and to observability and performance tuning would also be relevant.

This could suit a hands-on technical lead or senior .NET engineer who already guides others and wants a role spanning implementation, architecture and engineering quality.
