CoLAB NET4CO2 is seeking a highly qualified Senior Engineer/Researcher to join our CO2 Utilization team. This team aims to develop and assess effective technologies for the utilisation of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide captured from large emission sources, such as industrial plants or directly from air. This field complements Carbon Capture technologies, and their integration can result in significant reductions in global CO2 emissions.

Main Responsibilities
  • Support the synthetic fuels research line in the scope of CO2 utilization, involving, but not limited to the development of new technologies and process optimisation.
  • Engage in research activities related to carbon dioxide capture and valorisation, mainly concerning the technology implementation and demonstration for different fuels.
  • Support the design and optimization of chemical processes for the production of sustainable fuels and other CO2-based products.
  • Engage in the commercial plan and way forward steps.
  • Promote cooperation with external R&D and industrial stakeholders and identify possible synergies.Prepare applications for competitive funding.
  • Provide support and guidance to PhD and master students.
  • Prepare technical‑scientific reports.
  • Promote scientific dissemination.
Required Skills
  • PhD in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
  • At least five years of experience in a relevant field and respective relevant publications.
  • Knowledge of carbon dioxide utilisation technologies towards synthetic fuels production (gas and liquid fuels).
  • Experience and motivation in laboratory procedures.
  • Proven track record with different reactor technologies/prototypes at different scales.
  • Experience in materials screening and characterization techniques, including gas chromatography.
  • Experience in supervising and coordinating the work of junior researchers.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to solve complex problems with an out‑of‑the‑box approach.
  • Knowledge in process simulation and optimisation using ASPEN Plus is valued.
  • Excellent communication skills with a strong team spirit, fully open to collaborate with other teams (internal or external to the organisation).
  • Foreign languages proficiency: very good English level.
  • Valid working VISA to work in Portugal.
