Iterable is seeking a Senior Product Designer, Design Systems to shape Aurora, the design system that underpins Iterable’s product experience. You’ll be a systems‑minded designer comfortable in Figma, documentation, code‑adjacent workflows, and technical conversations with engineers to make design intent machine‑readable.

You’ll help evolve Aurora’s visual language, component architecture, tokens, patterns, and guidance, and define schemas, tooling, and contribution practices that endure across

Qualificações

• 6+ years of product design experience, including building or evolving design systems at scale.
• Portfolio demonstrating strong craft, interaction quality, accessibility, and systems thinking.
• Deep Figma expertise: variables and modes, properties, variants, slots, branching, libraries, and scalable organization.
• Experience defining component APIs, anatomy, states, behaviors, composition rules, and usage guidance.
• Comfort with schemas, contracts, taxonomies, dependencies, validation, versioning, and change management.
• Strong engineering partnership across implementation, testing, accessibility, APIs, and release quality.
• Familiarity with Storybook, Figma Code Connect, token pipelines, and documentation or design‑system management tools.
• Ability to write precise documentation for humans and machines, with a practical understanding of how AI coding agents consume context and where they drift.
• Strong accessibility knowledge, asynchronous communication, organizational skills, and a pragmatic, hands‑on multiplier mindset.

Responsabilidades

• Lead Aurora’s evolution across foundations, components, patterns, and product‑specific assemblies.
• Define component contracts and structured specs covering anatomy, properties, variants, states, slots, composition, accessibility, and intended use.
• Make design intent machine‑readable for Figma, code, documentation, prototypes, and AI coding agents, including behaviors Figma cannot express alone.
• Partner with engineers to connect Figma, tokens, React, Storybook, prototypes, and documentation through deterministic workflows that minimize drift.
• Strengthen Aurora’s token architecture, themes, aliases, states, and core foundations.
• Establish audits and quality gates for hardcoded values, invalid combinations, missing states, accessibility gaps, and system divergence.
• Help version and communicate system changes through change logs, release notes, impact reports, and architectural decision records.
• Explore responsible AI/LLM use of Aurora, then build prototypes, tools, and guidance that help teams apply the system consistently.
• Audit product surfaces, improve high‑impact inconsistencies, and mentor designers and engineers in systems thinking and AI‑ready workflows.

How will you make an impact

We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer, Design Systems to help shape the next generation of Aurora, the design system that underpins Iterable’s product experience.

This role is for a systems‑minded designer who is equally comfortable in Figma, documentation, code‑adjacent workflows, and technical conversations with engineers. You’ll help Aurora become more than a collection of components: a versioned, structured, verifiable system of design intent that people and AI tools can reliably understand and use.

You’ll contribute to the evolution of Aurora’s visual language, component architecture, tokens, patterns, and guidance. You’ll also help define the specifications, schemas, tooling, and contribution practices that make those decisions durable across Figma, code, documentation, prototypes, and AI‑assisted product development.

Your goal is make it easier for teams, and the tools that help them build, to produce consistent, accessible, high‑quality product experiences without guessing.

• Experience with AI/LLM instructions, agent skills, retrieval‑friendly documentation, generated‑UI evaluation, advanced prototyping, or cross‑platform systems.

How you’ll know you’re succeeding

• Teams can find and apply the right Aurora component, pattern, token, and requirement without relying on tribal knowledge.
• Specs and component contracts stay close to code and clearly describe structure, configuration, states, behavior, accessibility, and composition.
• AI‑assisted workflows use current Aurora guidance and tokens instead of fabricating values or creating avoidable divergence.
• Audits, release practices, and shared tooling catch issues early while helping product teams move faster with more consistent, accessible, polished experiences.

Working relationships

You’ll work closely with:

• Product designers across Iterable, helping them apply Aurora and contribute back to the system.
• Frontend and platform engineers building and maintaining component libraries, token infrastructure, and quality tooling.
• Product managers and product teams navigating complex workflows and system‑level trade‑offs.
• Documentation, developer experience, and AI enablement partners as we make design intent easier to discover and use.

What this role is and isn’t

This is a design leadership role without direct people management. You’ll be expected to set a high bar, create clarity, influence across teams, and contribute directly to the work. This is not an ML engineering role. You don’t need to train models. You do need to understand how AI‑assisted tools consume design‑system information and help us create the structure, constraints, and workflows that let those tools produce better results.

The base salary range for this position in Lisbon, Portugal, is €60,000 - €70,000 per year (gross). This range is provided in anticipation of the requirements of the EU Pay Transparency Directive (2023/970), which EU member states are implementing into national law, and reflects the expected compensation at the start of employment for this role.The final offer will be determined based on your experience, qualifications, and performance throughout the selection process, while also ensuring alignment with our internal equity principles.
