Role Description The Senior Accountant / Accounting Generalist is a full‑time, on‑site role based in Funchal. This role is responsible for managing day‑to‑day accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, and month‑end and year‑end closing activities. The individual will prepare financial statements and reports, support budgeting and forecasting, and ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and local regulations. Daily tasks also include analyzing financial data, supporting audits, and collaborating with consulting teams to provide accurate financial information to clients. The role involves continuous process improvement, helping optimize financial workflows and supporting the development of best practices for client engagements.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of general accounting principles, including general ledger management, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management within small and medium enterprise environments.
• Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems, as well as solid skills in Excel and other office productivity tools.
• Ability to analyze financial data, prepare clear reports, and present insights to internal teams and client stakeholders.
• Familiarity with local tax regulations, compliance requirements, and audit processes in Germany, Portugal or the EU.
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with both operational and finance teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; professional certifications (e.g., CPA or equivalent) are an advantage.
• Previous experience in a consulting, advisory, or multi‑client environment is beneficial.
• Fluency in English; proficiency in Portuguese or additional languages is a plus.
