Cloudflare in Lisbon is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to design, deliver, and operate distributed systems that authenticate users, manage OAuth credentials and sessions, enforce Zero Trust policies, and proxy MCP traffic across Cloudflare's global network.

You will own complex projects, mentor engineers, and collaborate with Access, Gateway, and Developer Platform teams to evolve the MCP Portals protocol and product while delivering secure, scalable, production-ready solutions.

Qualificações

• 6+ years building and operating distributed systems in production.
• Ownership of complex production services and deployments.
• Strong programming skills in TS/JS/Go/Rust/C++ or similar.
• Deep understanding of HTTP, APIs, proxies, and distributed-systems failure modes.
• Experience with authentication/authorization tech such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWTs, PKCE.
• Experience designing security-sensitive systems with identity and authorization considerations.
• Ability to diagnose production issues using logs, metrics, traces, and customer evidence, then drive durable fixes.
• Experience making backward-compatible changes and managing deployment migrations.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, with ability to explain tradeoffs and mentor others.

Responsabilidades

• Lead design, implementation, and operation of globally distributed services connecting MCP clients to upstream MCP servers.
• Own complex features from problem definition through rollout, observability, and production support.
• Shape technical decisions for MCP Portals, including service boundaries, security controls, and tradeoffs among reliability, latency, and resource use.
• Evolve MCP implementation as the specification changes, planning safe migrations for existing customers and integrations.
• Design and review authentication and authorization flows involving Cloudflare Access, OAuth, identity, and delegated access.
• Improve reliability and scalability of multi-tenant systems on the Developer Platform using production data to prioritize work.
• Strengthen observability with logs, metrics, traces, dashboards, and alerts; participate in production support and incident response.
• Lead investigations of complex customer issues across services and teams, identify root causes, and drive fixes.
• Review designs and code, mentor engineers, and raise the quality of testing, deployment, and operations.
