Job summary

KWAN is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join our team in Porto or Braga. You will analyze large, complex datasets, build and monitor ML models, and collaborate with data engineers to ensure clean, accessible data.

The ideal candidate has senior experience in data science or ML, strong Python and SQL, cloud experience (AWS/Azure/GCP), and a track record of end-to-end model lifecycle management. Hybrid work is available with 2 days on-site.

Qualifications

• Senior-level experience in Data Science or Machine Learning, preferably within the retail sector.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Proven experience designing, validating, deploying, and monitoring Machine Learning models end to end.
• Strong knowledge of feature engineering, model selection, tuning, evaluation, and lifecycle management.
• Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL.
• Experience with cloud-based data platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Strong ability to translate retail and business challenges into practical, data-driven solutions.
• Ability to manage complex and ambiguous problems with a high level of autonomy and ownership.
• Strong communication skills and confidence presenting technical findings to non-technical stakeholders.
• Analytical thinking, curiosity, creativity, and a continuous learning mindset.
• Hybrid: 2 days/week in the office (Porto / Braga).

Responsibilities

• Analyze and interpret large, complex datasets to generate actionable business insights.
• Build, deploy, and monitor machine learning models that support strategic initiatives.
• Collaborate with data engineers to ensure reliable, accessible, and well-structured data for model development.
• Translate business needs into analytical questions and communicate results clearly to stakeholders.
• Design and implement feature engineering strategies to enhance model effectiveness.
• Develop and maintain pipelines for model training and evaluation.
• Promote best practices in MLOps, ensuring scalability and performance in production.
