InnoWave in Portugal seeks an experienced Senior Data Engineer to design and drive scalable, secure data platforms across Data Lakes, Lakehouses, Data Warehouses, and Data Marts in cloud environments. You will lead architecture discussions, define data models, and promote governance, data quality, and observability while collaborating with international teams and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 15 years of professional IT experience in Data Architecture and solution architecture
• Degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field
• Strong experience designing end-to-end data architectures and data models
• Cloud platforms experience (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and modern data tech like Databricks, Synapse, BigQuery or Redshift
• Fluent English; Spanish valued

Responsabilités

• Analyse requirements and identify architectural considerations and dependencies
• Design end-to-end data architectures for ingestion, processing, storage, governance, and consumption
• Define data models across relational, dimensional, document, graph, geospatial, and time-series data
• Evolve cloud-based data platforms (Data Lakes, Lakehouses, Data Warehouses, Data Marts) for scalability and cost efficiency
• Define data integration using ETL/ELT, batch, streaming, CDC, APIs, and event-driven patterns
• Evaluate alternatives, document ADRs and architectural decisions
• Promote reference architectures, technology standards, and EA principles
• Ensure data governance, quality, lineage, metadata, and security practices
• Meet non-functional requirements (availability, resilience, observability, DR, performance)
• Lead architecture reviews and guide data engineers and teams
• Produce architectural docs and communicate decisions to stakeholders

Senior Data Engineer – Data Architecture & Cloud Platforms

Responsibilities

• Analyse, challenge, and clarify business, functional, and non-functional requirements, identifying constraints, dependencies, risks, and architectural considerations.
• Design end-to-end data architectures, covering data ingestion, integration, processing, storage, governance, and consumption.
• Define data models and modelling strategies aligned with business requirements, covering relational, dimensional, document, graph, geospatial, and time-series data models.
• Design and evolve cloud-based data platforms, including Data Lakes, Lakehouses, Data Warehouses, and Data Marts, ensuring scalability, performance, interoperability, and cost efficiency.
• Define data integration solutions using ETL/ELT, batch processing, streaming, Change Data Capture (CDC), APIs, and event-driven architectures.
• Evaluate architectural and technological alternatives, assess trade-offs, and document key decisions through Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) or equivalent documentation.
• Define and promote reference architectures, architectural blueprints, technology standards, and best practices aligned with Enterprise Architecture and Data Management strategies.
• Ensure the implementation of data governance, data quality, metadata management, data lineage, data cataloguing, Master Data Management (MDM), and data security practices.
• Design architectures that meet non-functional requirements, including availability, resilience, scalability, performance, security, disaster recovery, observability, and cost optimisation.
• Define DataOps and observability requirements for data pipelines and datasets, monitoring execution times, latency, data freshness, schema changes, anomalies, and data quality.
• Lead architecture reviews, validate technical designs, identify architectural risks, and guide data engineers, architects, and implementation teams.
• Produce and maintain high-quality architectural documentation, diagrams, technical assessments, and recommendations, communicating decisions effectively to technical and business stakeholders.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary and international teams, providing technical leadership and promoting knowledge sharing, continuous improvement, and delivery excellence.

Skills

• Minimum of 15 years of professional IT experience, with proven expertise in Data Architecture, Solution Architecture, and the design of complex data solutions.
• Degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong experience designing end-to-end data architectures, covering ingestion, integration, processing, storage, governance, and consumption.
• Advanced knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases, data modelling, Data Warehousing, Data Lakes, Lakehouse architectures, and Big Data technologies.
• Strong experience with cloud platforms, including Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Experience with modern data technologies such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse Analytics, BigQuery, or Amazon Redshift.
• Solid knowledge of data integration patterns and technologies, including ETL/ELT, batch processing, streaming, CDC, APIs, and event-driven architectures.
• Strong understanding of Data Governance, Data Security, Data Quality, Data Lineage, Metadata Management, Data Catalogs, Master Data Management, and GDPR.
• Proven ability to analyse functional and non-functional requirements, evaluate architectural alternatives, assess trade-offs, and make independent architectural decisions.
• Experience defining and applying reference architectures, technology standards, and Enterprise Architecture principles.
• Knowledge of designing scalable, resilient, secure, and cost-efficient solutions, with a strong focus on performance, availability, observability, and disaster recovery.
• Strong technical leadership, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence architectural decisions across multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and business audiences.
• Strong commitment to quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Experience working on strategic projects and familiarity with Agile methodologies, JIRA, and Confluence (valued).
• Knowledge of the Energy & Utilities sector (valued).
• Experience designing data architectures supporting Analytics, Machine Learning, and AI use cases (valued).
• Languages (written and spoken): English (mandatory) and Spanish (valued).
