Riskified's Lisbon-based backend team is looking for a Senior Backend Developer to help design scalable architectures and build FinTech-grade services. You’ll work in an Agile setting, own features from planning to deployment, and collaborate with product and design teams to deliver impact.

You’ll deploy daily to production, mentor peers, and ensure clean, SOLID code using Scala/Java, SQL/NoSQL, and modern cloud tools (AWS, Docker, Kubernetes).

Qualificações

• BS in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• 7+ years of hands-on server-side coding experience.
• Self-directed learner with a habit of improving software.
• Commitment to clean, SOLID code and resilient systems.
• Proficiency in Scala/Java and related ecosystems.
• Solid experience with SQL/NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with streaming apps is a plus.
• Experience mentoring fellow developers and collaborating cross-functionally.

Responsabilidades

• Design and develop highly scalable architectures for ML systems and platforms.

About The Role

Join Riskified's dynamic payment fraud group as a Senior Backend Developer and contribute to our innovative and rapidly expanding department. In this role, you'll thrive in an Agile setting, utilizing cutting-edge technologies to build impactful FinTech products. You'll play a crucial role in expanding Riskified's ecosystem, collaborating with both clients and internal teams to make a daily difference to our business.

At Riskified, we uphold the belief that developers should exercise complete ownership over their work. This responsibility covers everything from the initial phase of planning features, where collaboration occurs with Product and Design teams, to carefully choosing suitable technologies, designing code and architecture, conducting pull request reviews, and reaching the final step of deployment within a CI/CD setup. Overseeing post-deployment monitoring is also part of your duties.

Whether you enjoy writing complex business logic in the backend, take pleasure in writing clean and high-quality code, or tweaking the servers and infrastructure to perform well at scale, we encourage you to get your hands dirty end-to-end.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Conceptualize and develop highly scalable architectures for our machine learning systems and platforms.
• Engage with large-scale projects encompassing real-time and batch jobs, working across a spectrum of programming languages (Scala, Node.js) and technologies (Apache Spark, Kafka, Kubernetes, Docker, etc.).
• Execute daily code deployments to production, leveraging our advanced CI/CD tools.
• Play an important role in the end-to-end development of products that significantly enhance Riskified's core offerings.
• Collaborate closely with engineering and product management teams to ideate, design, and implement new features across the product landscape.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• 7+ years of demonstrated hands‑on experience in server‑side coding.
• Possess a self‑directed learning approach to software development.
• Dedication to crafting clean, SOLID, and resilient code.
• Proficiency in Scala/Java, supported by practical work experience.
• Proficiency in database technologies (SQL/noSQL).
• Familiarity with stream applications is advantageous.
• Proficiency in working effectively with common AI tools.
• Experience in and a passion for mentoring and coaching fellow developers.
• A collaborative team player with exceptional communication skills and the capacity to work autonomously.

We include transparent salary ranges to support fairness, clarity, and informed decision‑making early in the process. The base salary range for this position is €50,000 - €75,000 gross annually for candidates based in Lisbon. Your actual salary will be determined based on your unique skills, experience, and competencies. If your expectations differ, please let us know - we're always open to a conversation.

The base salary is one part of the total compensation package at Riskified. All full‑time regular employees receive a bonus target and are eligible to receive stock‑based awards.
