Oporto British School in Portugal seeks a talented Secondary School Teacher of English to join our English department on a full-time temporary basis, starting as soon as possible to cover a medical absence.

You should have experience teaching KS3 English National Curriculum, IGCSE English and/or IB Diploma English Language and Literature; a genuine commitment to student-centred learning and collaborative teamwork is essential to contribute to OBS's strong, international community.

Established in 1894, Oporto British School is the longest-established British School in mainland Europe. It follows the English National Curriculum up to KS3, leading to Cambridge IGCSE, and then to the IB Diploma Programme. Our pupils have achieved outstanding IB Diploma results in recent years. We are seeking a talented and motivated Secondary School Teacher of English to join our thriving school starting as soon as possible, in order to temporarily cover a possible longer term medical absence. This is a full-time role teaching within the English department. Experience teaching KS3 English National Curriculum, IGCSE English and / or IB Diploma English Language and Literature courses will be regarded positively.

Student achievement is above UK and international benchmarks, and the English department has a strong profile across the school. You will be a highly effective and dynamic classroom teacher, with a genuine commitment to putting students first. The school will provide excellent support and professional development that is appropriate to your needs.

The successful candidate will be committed to excellent teaching and learning, able to inspire students with a genuine enthusiasm for English and Literature, and willing to contribute fully to the wider life of the school.

Hold a relevant degree and be a qualified school teacher Have experience teaching English to school leaving age Ideally have experience of the IB Diploma Programme and its underpinning pedagogical principles Demonstrate a student centred approach, strong classroom management, and adaptation to different learning needs Enjoy collaborating, sharing best practice, and playing a role in the continued development of the department
