Job summary

Xelerate is seeking a Backend Engineer to design and build the services behind a European B2B marketplace. You will develop robust backend systems in Java with Quarkus, aligning with cloud-native, microservices practices on Azure.

Collaboration with frontend, product and DevOps is essential to deliver secure, scalable software. You will work on APIs, data integration, and end-to-end DevOps, including Docker containers and CI/CD pipelines, while maintaining quality through tests and reviews.

Qualifications

• Solid professional experience with Java 17+ and Quarkus.
• Strong understanding of RESTful API design and microservices architecture.
• Experience with testing frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or Bicep), observability tools, or messaging systems (Kafka).
• A pragmatic mindset with ownership of features from design to production.
• Fluency in English (spoken and written); German is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs using Java and Quarkus.
• Model and expose clean JSON contracts for frontend and services.
• Integrate with core enterprise systems, databases, and third-party services.
• Turn B2B processes (invoicing, payments, claims) into reliable services.
• Write unit and integration tests and participate in code reviews and standards.
• Containerize services with Docker, contribute to CI/CD and Kubernetes deployments.
