Job summary

Mercor seeks a Bilingual Portuguese STEM Expert (PhD) for AI Safety. This contract role focuses on writing expert prompts in Portuguese and evaluating model outputs for accuracy, safety, and handling of sensitive content. Remote, 20+ hours per week, immediate start.

You will collaborate with AI research teams to improve model safety and performance, applying structured guidelines and working independently to meet deadlines.

Qualifications

• PhD in chemistry, biology or related field.
• Native or near-native Portuguese with business-level English.
• Extensive laboratory and computational technique experience.
• Strong judgment on scientific safety and dual-use handling.

Responsibilities

• Write expert-level prompts in Portuguese across specialized scientific topics.
• Evaluate and annotate model responses for scientific accuracy, helpfulness, and safe handling of content.
• Apply structured guidelines to classify prompts and conversations.
• Collaborate with AI research teams to improve AI model safety and performance.
• Work independently and asynchronously to meet deadlines while enhancing model capabilities.
