We are looking for an experienced and hands-on QHSE Manager to establish and lead BASEYARD’s Quality, Health, Safety & Environment function in Braga, Portugal, building a scalable management system capable of supporting multiple high-tech products, customers, and production programmes.
Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site position based in Braga, Portugal.
The QHSE Manager will be responsible for establishing, implementing, and continuously improving BASEYARD’s integrated Quality, Health, Safety & Environment management system.
The role will ensure that BASEYARD’s operations, manufacturing processes, suppliers, facilities, and products operate in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements, customer expectations, and international standards, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, AQAP, and other relevant aerospace, defence, and industrial requirements.
The successful candidate will play a key role in building the company’s quality and compliance culture from the ground up and ensuring that BASEYARD is ready to support demanding defence, dual-use, aerospace, robotics, electronics, and advanced manufacturing customers.
Responsibilities
- Build and lead BASEYARD’s QHSE function from the ground up.
- Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve the company’s integrated QHSE Management System.
- Establish and maintain the Quality Management System in accordance with ISO 9001 and relevant customer and industry requirements.
- Lead implementation and certification activities related to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, AQAP, and other applicable standards.
- Establish company-wide quality policies, procedures, SOPs, documentation standards, and traceability requirements.
- Develop and manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCR), Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement processes.
- Plan and conduct internal audits and coordinate external, customer, certification, and regulatory audits.
- Establish quality control and quality assurance processes across production, engineering, NPI, supply chain, and warehouse operations.
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) and ensure appropriate quality requirements are incorporated during industrialisation and transfer into serial production.
- Support supplier qualification, supplier audits, incoming quality control, supplier performance monitoring, and corrective actions.
- Establish workplace Health & Safety systems in accordance with ISO 45001 and applicable Portuguese and EU regulations.
- Conduct workplace risk assessments, hazard identification, incident investigations, and corrective actions.
- Develop and deliver QHSE training, safety awareness, and compliance programmes across the organisation.
- Establish and maintain the Environmental Management System in accordance with ISO 14001.
- Monitor waste management, resource consumption, environmental impacts, and applicable environmental obligations.
- Ensure compliance with applicable Portuguese, EU, customer, and industry-specific regulatory requirements.
- Support product compliance, CE conformity, export control, controlled technology, and defence-related compliance activities where applicable.
- Define, implement, and monitor QHSE KPIs covering quality, safety, environmental performance, supplier quality, customer quality, and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with Production, Engineering, Supply Chain, NPI, Facilities, and Management to identify risks and improve operational processes.
- Maintain documentation, records, certification evidence, and audit trails required by customers, authorities, and certification bodies.
- Support customer audits, supplier assessments, certifications, regulatory inspections, and operational due diligence.

What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management, Industrial Engineering, Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience in QHSE, Quality Management, Quality Engineering, or manufacturing quality roles.
- Strong practical knowledge of ISO 9001 and experience implementing or maintaining Quality Management Systems.
- Knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
- Experience with internal, external, customer, and certification audits.
- Strong understanding of NCR, CAPA, root-cause analysis, risk management, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience working within manufacturing, electronics, aerospace, automotive, robotics, industrial equipment, or other complex manufacturing environments.
- Experience developing procedures, SOPs, quality documentation, and traceability systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, operations, production, supply chain, and management teams.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Practical, hands‑on mindset and willingness to build systems and processes from the ground up.
- High attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
- Good English communication skills are required.

- Knowledge or practical experience with AQAP requirements.

- Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement certification.
- Experience in high‑mix, low‑volume or contract manufacturing environments.
