Job summary

Elastic is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead Elastic UI (EUI), shaping component architecture and design-system strategy across multiple product teams. You will mentor engineers, review code, and collaborate with design leadership to translate visual language into robust, reusable APIs.

You will drive accessibility, performance, and consistency across Elastic products, while guiding the team through complex migration paths and evolving APIs for broad adoption.

Qualifications

• Deep hands-on experience building and operating React/TypeScript component libraries or design systems at scale.
• Proven track record of technical leadership and aligning engineers around a shared direction.
• Experience designing composable, flexible component APIs and theming/token systems.
• Strong accessibility knowledge and embedding WCAG practices into teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for Elastic UI (EUI) and component architecture.
• Make hard architectural calls, review designs, and unblock engineers on challenging problems.
• Mentor engineers, review code, and drive design critique across teams.
• Collaborate with design leadership to translate design language into robust APIs.
• Drive adoption of the design system across Elastic and its consuming teams.
• Improve accessibility, performance, and cross-browser correctness of shared UI blocks.
