- Clearance Requirements: National Background Check with Inquiries and Fingerprints, and Drug Screen.
- Period of Performance: Time of Award up to five (5) years.
- Type of Employment: Part‑time, 30 hours per week.
- Estimated Pay: $17.84 - $22.93 per hour.
- Pay Holidays: Twelve (12) Paid Holidays.
- Paid Time Off: 80 hours, occurring on day one.
- Sick Leave: 56 hours, occurring on day one.
Working Hours
The Pharmacy Technician will generally work Monday through Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a 30‑minute unpaid lunch break. The Pharmacy Technician will not work more than 30 hours a week.
Summary of Duties
The Pharmacy Technician will provide services such as reading and interpreting prescriptions and medication orders written by medical staff, selecting and retrieving medications of correct strength and dosage form prescribed, transcribing prescription data to labels using computer systems, preparing prescriptions for review by a pharmacist prior to dispensing, giving pertinent patient instructions when appropriate, and completing stock medication orders as instructed by the pharmacist.
Qualifications
- Must have a certificate of training for Pharmacy Technician services from an approved state program.
- Must have a Pharmacy Technician license from the state of Ohio.
- A minimum of one (2) year of Pharmacy Technician experience.
- Must have experience with computers and typing skills.
- Must be Cardio‑Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified either by the American Red Cross (ARC) or the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Three (3) letters of reference.
- Bilingual oral communication skills and experience in a clinical correctional setting are desirable but not required.

Attire
The contractors are expected to wear professional clothing while on duty. The attire worn should also be appropriate for the correctional environment in which the contract employees will be performing.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Reading and interpreting prescriptions and medication orders written by medical staff.
- Selecting and retrieving medications of correct strength and dosage from prescribed, transcribing prescription data to labels using typewriters or computer systems.
- Preparing prescriptions for review by a Bureau of Prisons (BOP)/Public Health Service (PHS) Pharmacist before dispensing and giving pertinent patient instructions when appropriate.
- The Pharmacy Technician will not in any way deal with DEA‑controlled substances, but can be responsible for the running of all pill lines upon proper orientation by the Pharmacist.
- Assisting the Pharmacist in ensuring that only medications listed in the approved BOP Formulary are dispensed.
- Ensuring that requests for non‑formulary medications are initiated and submitted to the Pharmacist for approval.
- Maintaining adequate inventories of all medications and medical supplies and preparing the proper paperwork for replenishment of inventory.
- Maintaining an expiration date log to ensure that no outdated or expired stock remains in the inventory.
- Assisting in updating patient education literature, assisting in the improvement of performance studies, and helping the Pharmacist in meeting policy guidelines for the Adult in Custody (AICs).
- Preparing recommended supply lists to order pharmaceuticals.
- Maintaining the pharmacy areas in a clean and orderly fashion.
- Maintaining a stock of appropriate forms utilized in the Pharmacy Department and, in the absence of the Pharmacist, fulfilling additional pharmacy duties.
- Maintaining the Pharmacy operation within the guidelines governing the duties of the Pharmacy Technician.
- Ensuring that prescriptions are reviewed by a pharmacist before dispensing to the AIC population.
- The Pharmacy Technician should be able to input a minimum of 25 prescriptions per hour accurately.
