BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems in Viana do Castelo, Portugal, is hiring a Metallurgy & Cleanliness Technician for the morning shift. You will perform metallurgy tests, conduct metallographic analysis, assist with product audits, and support Failure Analysis and corrective actions. The role emphasizes ISO 16232 compliance and lab documentation.

Ideal candidates have a technical lab background, hands-on experience with cleanliness tests, and fluent Portuguese; English is a plus.

Qualificações

  • Secondary education in a related technical area is required.
  • Experience preparing material samples (grind, polish, etch) for metallographic examination.
  • Experience in cleanliness tests according to VDA and ISO 16232.
  • Knowledge of ISO 17025 and calibration concepts is preferred.
  • MSA - Measurement System Analysis and R&R knowledge is desirable.
  • Fluent in Portuguese; English skills are a plus.

Responsabilidades

  • Perform metallurgy tests according to established procedures.
  • Conduct metallographic analysis to validate parts and assess welding, porosity and defects.
  • Coordinate annual product audit plans with the metrology technician.
  • Assist Failure Analysis and Root Cause Corrective Action for process/part issues.
  • Maintain laboratory reports and test instrument documentation.
  • Plan and follow up on laboratory activities and calibration tasks.
  • Ensure 5S and cleanliness in the lab at all times.
  • Comply with environmental, health and safety standards.

BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as an Metallurgy & Cleanliness Technician at our production plant in Viana, Portugal.

Key Accountabilities
  • Perform metallurgy tests based on the established procedure as scheduled
  • Perform metallographic analysis in the laboratory for validation of parts and compliance with the welding, porosity, defects and other issues
  • Perform, together with the metrology technician, the annual plan for product audits
  • Performing and support other departments Failure Analysis and Root Cause Corrective Action for process and part anomalies or Quality check failures, warranties, customer incidents, production incidents, tests, improvement plans and others that are necessary
  • Scan and file laboratory reports accordingly
  • Creates and maintains test instrument and test method documentation
  • Plan and follow up on laboratory activities
  • Manage the inventory of test piece and chemical to ensure the smooth operation of lab activity
  • Perform internal equipment verification as stated in respective working instruction
  • Coordinate the calibration activities of equipment used by metallurgy and cleanliness laboratory
  • Evaluation of PPAP samples (Product Part Approval Process)
  • Perform tests and detection of particles according to ISO 16232 standards and customer specifications
  • Maintain the cleanliness and 5S of the working environment at all the time
  • Maintain all standards in accordance with company policies, procedures, and core values
  • Compliance with and maintenance of the Laboratory Manual and quality procedures within its area of responsibility
  • Comply with environmental, health and safety, quality, and productivity standards
  • Comply with the organization’s rules and internal regulations: Code of Ethics, practice, e and working period
  • Respect workplace safety and cleanliness rules
  • Perform other tasks not included in the activity for which they were hired, when the needs or convenience of service so warrant, for the period necessary for the aforementioned needs or convenience of service
Education & Experience
  • Secondary education in a related technical area
  • Preferably higher education courses related to Laboratory
