Job summary

Boehringer Ingelheim is seeking a Medical Science Liaison to advance obesity/MASH indications in Portugal, engaging Health Care Professionals with scientific data and insights. This field-based role involves frequent travel across Portugal and occasional international engagements, reporting to the Medical Team Lead.

You will collaborate with Medical Managers, other MSLs, and the Medical Team Lead in CRM Therapeutic Area, building credible networks and identifying evidence needs for projects.

Qualifications

• PhD or master's degree in Medicine, Life sciences or similar field.
• Excellent command of Portuguese and English.
• Experience in the pharmaceutical/healthcare industry (≥2 years).
• Knowledge of Cardio Renal Metabolic therapeutic area, namely obesity management.
• Knowledge of clinical trial design and process.

• Act as a Health Care Professionals (HCPs) scientific resource and go-to-person for scientific queries and in-depth scientific information related to medications and indications within your area of expertise.
• Generate and communicate scientific data; have a deep understanding of scientific and medical thinking, limitations, and opportunities.
• Gather insights from the field to support strategic direction to the medical and asset team.
• Discuss IIS and External Collaborative Research proposals together with investigators and Medical Managers and assist in proposals submission.
• Attend international/ national/ regional medical congresses to staff scientific booths.
• Collaborate cross functionally with Internal Medical Teams, Field force, Key Account Managers, Marketing and Market access.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Medical Science Liaison for the indications Obesity/MASH will contribute to increased awareness and to better treatment by discussing results of high-quality trials by building and maintaining trustworthy scientific and medical relations with Health Care Professionals (HCPs). You will be the face of Boehringer Ingelheim to high-level scientific professionals where you will engage in scientific discussions and idea exchange, where an ultimate goal is to ensure that the right patients are treated optimally with a focus on new scientific approaches.

This is a field-based role (70-80% of the time), focused on Portugal Northern and Center regions, reporting to the local Medical Team Lead, with frequent travel across Portugal and occasional international engagements.

In this role, you will collaborate with multiple internal teams and work closely with Medical Managers, other MSLs and the Medical Team Lead in CRM (Cardio-Renal-Metabolic) Therapeutic Area.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Act as a Health Care Professionals (HCPs) scientific resource and go-to-person for scientific queries and in-depth scientific information related to medications and indications within your area of expertise
• Generate and communicate scientific data; have a deep understanding of scientific and medical thinking, limitations, and opportunities
• Gather insights from the field to support strategic direction to the medical and asset team
• Discuss and meet the special needs of External Experts for in-depth and leading-edge information and product/indication knowledge through interaction with this group
• Organize, lead or attend regional/local advisory boards, roundtable meetings, expert and scientific meetings
• Develop and maintain a network of HCPs and medical societies
• Identify need for evidence generation, such as registries, epidemiological studies, but also non-trial activities and other medical/scientific projects
• Discuss IIS (Investigator Initiated Studies) and External Collaborative Research (ECR) proposals together with investigators and Medical Managers and assist in proposals submission
• Attend international/ national/ regional medical congresses to staff scientific booths
• Collaborate cross functionally with Internal Medical Teams, Field force, Key Account Managers, Marketing and Market access

WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING TO THE TEAM

• PhD or master's degree in Medicine, Life sciences or similar field
• Experience within the pharmaceutical/healthcare industry (at least 2 years)
• Deep understanding of Cardio Renal Metabolic Therapeutic Area, namely obesity management
• Knowledge of the Portuguese health care system and the pharmaceutical industry
• Knowledge of clinical trial design and process
• Excellent command of the Portuguese & English languages
• Outstanding presentation and communication skills to share scientific content and context to multiple audiences - both orally and in writing
• Quality mindset, striving for excellence with a pro-active result driven behavior
• Ability to engage with stakeholders through various platforms and channels
• Outgoing personality, team-player with good peer relationship skills
• You have a valid driving license and are passionate about a field-based role
• You are legally eligible to work and live in Portugal
