Job description

The ideal candidate will have extensive full-time Unity programming experience in games. As a lead game developer, you will be responsible for leading the development team. This includes design, development, coding, testing, and debugging. You will also coordinate the development team's schedule and ensure effective communication between team members and other areas, set up a development pipeline, estimate task completion, write technical design documents and assist the producer in having a vision for the future

For this role, you will join the client's original team ahead of the launch of a cloud-streamed party game and take over day-to-day engineering delivery of its post-launch roadmap: social features, asynchronous multiplayer, themed content updates and, later, multiplayer across households. You will work as an extension of the client's studio in Helsinki. The game is built in Unity 6.3 (C#, URP, FMOD) and streams from the cloud to a TV, with phones acting as controllers (TypeScript/React).

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
  • Lead the client engineering team and taking over from the original developers
  • Own the architecture and SDK/platform integration
  • Plan and estimate each update with the producer
  • Set up the pipeline, tooling and telemetry
  • Oversee backend-facing features such as async multiplayer
  • Code review and mentoring
Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience as a Unity game developer
  • Previous experience as Lead Developer of a team of more than 6 developers
  • Leading the development of at least one large game title from A-Z
  • A passion for video games
  • Availability for daily working-hours overlap with Helsinki (EET/EEST)
  • Shipped client engineering work on a multiplayer, party, casual or two-screen game; live-ops experience on a live title is a strong plus
  • Strong skills in Unity having delivered a few titles at least
  • Excellent architectural abilities
  • Capable of mentoring juniors and regulars
  • Should be familiar with performance bottlenecks and ways to resolve them, multi-threading, OS concepts and optimization
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong reporting and documentation skills
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to new technological changes as per project need
  • Ability to design and estimate backend-facing client features such as asynchronous multiplayer, persistent state, leaderboards and session sync
  • Live-ops delivery experience: data-driven content pipelines, seasonal content, and re-planning quickly in response to player feedback and live KPIs
DESIRABLE PLUSES:
  • Very strong debugging skills
  • Experienced with word, puzzle, party or board games
  • Experience working with React, TypeScript or React Three Fiber on controller side
  • Experience on cloud-streamed or TV based game platforms
  • Solid technical foundation (e.g. Computer Science / Maths Degree or equivalent)
Benefits
  • Permanently remote position
  • An opportunity to hone and improve your skills by applying them to a diverse variety of engaging projects
  • Be part of an international group with offices worldwide
  • Career growth and development
  • Working closely with a team of like-minded people in a fast-paced, multicultural environment
  • Ongoing training and professional self-improvement opportunities
  • Flexible working hours
  • An inclusive culture and open communication
