Job summary

The Faro Public Library is seeking a Junior Librarian to join the team in Faro. You will assist with daily library operations, organize and maintain the collection, and help patrons with research and program participation.

This full-time role may require some evenings and weekends based on library events. A recent graduate or someone starting a career in librarianship is encouraged to apply, with a focus on detail and collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Library Science or related field preferred.
• Experience in a library or customer service environment is a plus.
• Knowledge of library cataloging systems and databases.
• Strong communication skills to interact with patrons of all ages.
• Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Organize and maintain library materials in a systematic and accessible manner.
• Assist patrons with finding books, articles, and other resources.
• Provide reference assistance by answering questions and helping with research.
• Promote library services, programs, and events to patrons.
• Help plan and implement activities for children, teens, and adults.
• Perform basic clerical tasks such as checking in/out materials, shelving books, and processing new items.
• Keep track of overdue materials and collect fines.
• Stay up-to-date on current trends in librarianship through professional development opportunities.
