CIIMAR - Interdisciplinary Center of Marine and Environmental Research – Uporto is seeking a PhD researcher to work on the FUNSEA project. The role involves marine biodiversity research, fieldwork on seaweed communities, and development of trait-based and Bayesian frameworks to assess functional impacts on coastal ecosystems.

The position is based in Matosinhos, Portugal, with an emphasis on research output, dissemination, and collaboration within the BET team.

Qualificações

• PhD in Biology, Ecology, Marine/Aquatic Science or related fields.
• Experience with in-situ monitoring of intertidal and subtidal seaweed communities.
• Proven experience in Functional Diversity or related subjects.
• Experience in experimental ecology and measuring eco-physiological status of seaweed species.
• Experience with R software.
• Publications in international journals in English with high impact in marine sciences.
• Experience in outreach and science dissemination.
• Good command of English (written and spoken); Portuguese knowledge recommended.

Responsabilidades

• Join the BET team – Benthic Ecology and Environmental Solutions – as part of the FUNSEA Project.
• Lead and support fieldwork, including monitoring and sampling of macroalgal communities.
• Assess ecological indicators using functional diversity metrics and experimental approaches.
• Develop trait-based and decision-support frameworks, including Bayesian models.
• Contribute to publications, reports, and data management plan.
• Support the project communications and coordination tasks.
