Job summary

Inspired Education Group is seeking a Head of Mathematics in Cascais to lead the Mathematics department, shaping academic strategy and ensuring excellence across Middle and Senior school faculties. You will own curriculum planning, delivery, and performance monitoring in alignment with external examination pathways.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Mathematics with a teaching qualification, substantial leadership experience, and fluent English.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or Statistics with a recognised teaching qualification.
• Experience teaching IGCSE, A-Level and/or IB Diploma Mathematics in an international setting.
• Substantial leadership experience in a school department would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Mathematics department with a clear vision for academic excellence across year groups.
• Design and deliver engaging Mathematics lessons mapped to Cambridge International frameworks (IGCSE/A-Levels) and IB Diploma.
• Line-manage and mentor department staff, conduct observations and support CPD.
• Analyze student tracking data to monitor progress and implement interventions.
• Oversee curriculum planning to ensure progression across Middle and Senior schools.
• Manage the department budget, resources, and digital learning platforms.
• Prepare students for external examinations with top-tier results.
• Foster STEM passion through extra-curricular activities and cross-curricular initiatives.
• Communicate effectively with parents, university counselors, and SLT.

ROLE SUMMARY:

TheHead of Mathematics is a prominent, middle-leadership role designed to drive academic excellence, data-driven progression, and a genuine passion for Mathematics across the Middle and Senior school faculties. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership to a team of specialized educators, taking full ownership of curriculum planning, delivery, and performance monitoring across external examination pathways.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead and manage the Mathematics department, providing a clear vision for academic excellence across all year groups.
• Design and deliver outstanding, engaging Mathematics lessons mapped to Cambridge International (IGCSE/A-Levels) and IB Diploma frameworks.
• Line-manage and mentor department staff, conducting lesson observations and supporting continuous professional development (CPD).
• Analyze student tracking data to monitor progress, identify underperformance, and implement effective intervention plans.
• Oversee curriculum planning to ensure seamless progression across Middle and Senior schools.
• Manage the department budget, physical resources, and digital learning platforms efficiently.
• Prepare students thoroughly for external public examinations, aiming for top-tier academic results.
• Foster a passion for STEM through extra-curricular activities, math competitions, and cross-curricular initiatives.
• Communicate effectively with parents, university counselors, and the senior leadership team regarding student achievement.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related STEM field, alongside a recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or equivalent).

Experience:

• Substantial experience teaching Mathematics within a British International School or IB school setting.
• Proven experience teachingIGCSE, A-Level, and/or IBDP Mathematics.
• Prior middle leadership experience (e.g., Head of Department, Second in Department, or Key Stage Coordinator) is highly desirable.

Language Skills: Native or near-native fluency in English (instructional language).
