azakaw's Portuguese entity (azakaw Limitada) is based in Porto and hosts the Group's engineering team. It is part of a multi-entity group with companies in the UAE, Portugal, the UK and South Africa.

About the Role
We are looking for a Finance & Accounting Officer based in Porto to own the accounting, tax and financial operations of azakaw’s Portuguese entity. As the entity’s Contabilista Certificado, you will be responsible for statutory accounting and tax compliance, payroll, treasury and payments, and local financial reporting.
You will report to the Finance Manager and the leadership team, and work closely with the Group finance team on monthly reporting, intercompany matters and Group policies. This is a hands‑on role with the opportunity to build and improve the entity’s finance processes.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting and close
- Maintain the general ledger and day‑to‑day bookkeeping in accordance with the Portuguese accounting framework (SNC).
- Reconcile bank accounts, supplier and client ledgers, and balance sheet accounts every month.
- Run the month‑end and year‑end close, including accruals, prepayments and fixed assets.
- Ensure compliance with Group accounting policies.
- Establish and maintain internal financial controls.
- Any adhoc tasks delegated by the Finance Manager.
Tax and statutory compliance
- Act as the entity’s Contabilista Certificado, preparing, signing and submitting tax and statutory filings.
- Manage VAT (IVA) returns, corporate income tax (IRC, Modelo 22), SAF‑T, IES and all related periodic reporting.
- Ensure invoicing compliance (certified invoicing software, e‑fatura, ATCUD) and keep the RCBE beneficial owner register up to date.
- Submit Banco de Portugal statistical reporting (COPE) for cross‑border transactions, where applicable.
- Oversees other regulatory compliance and reporting obligations, including FATCA, CRS and other applicable requirements.
- Responsible for ensuring that the invoicing system and templates are compliant with local tax requirements.
Payroll, payments and treasury
- Run or oversee monthly payroll, including benefits and mandatory work accident insurance.
- Process supplier invoices, employee expense claims and, where applicable, client invoicing and collections.
- Prepare and schedule salary, supplier and tax payments. The role prepares payments for approval.
- Manage banking relationships and report the entity’s cash position regularly.
Group finance
- Deliver the monthly reporting pack to the Group finance team within the agreed deadline (for example, by working day 5).
- Map local accounts to the Group chart of accounts and support Group consolidation.
- Prepare and reconcile intercompany invoices and balances with other Group entities.
- Support transfer pricing documentation for services provided by the Portuguese entity to the Group.
- Apply Group finance policies and communicate regularly, in English, with the Group finance team.
- Support finance system implementations and process improvements.
Planning, grants and audit
- Prepare budgets, cash‑flow forecasts and management reports for the Portuguese entity.
- Support the financial reporting and compliance of funded projects, including Portugal 2030 and EU R&D grants.
- Support R&D tax credit claims under SIFIDE II.
- Maintain complete records and supporting documents for audits, tax inspections and grant reviews.
Requirements
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, Management or a related field.
- Registered Contabilista Certificado (CC, formerly TOC), in good standing with the Ordem dos Contabilistas Certificados (OCC).
- 3 to 5 years of accounting experience, including full responsibility for a Portuguese company’s accounts and filings.
- Solid knowledge of Portuguese accounting, tax, payroll and social security rules (SNC, IVA, IRC, IRS, SAF‑T).
- Native or fluent Portuguese, for work with the Tax Authority (AT), Segurança Social and banks.
- Fluent English, for daily work with the Group finance team.
- Hands‑on experience with payroll, payment scheduling and bank reconciliations.
- Experience with Portuguese certified accounting software (for example PHC, Primavera or TOConline) and strong Excel skills.
- Strong organisation and the ability to manage deadlines independently.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Portugal 2030, EU grants or SIFIDE II (applications, reporting and compliance).
- Experience with intercompany accounting and transfer pricing in a multi‑entity international group.
- Prior experience in a SaaS, technology or scaling international company.
- Experience with cloud accounting tools used for group reporting (for example Xero).

- All tax and statutory filings submitted on time, with no penalties.
- A monthly close and Group reporting pack delivered by the agreed deadline.
- Intercompany balances reconciled and agreed with the Group every month.
- Documented finance processes and a clear payment approval workflow in place.
