Descrição da oferta de emprego

Robotic Field Engineer – Surgical Robotics

Location: Porto, Portugal

Reports to: Robotics Business Lead

About the Company

A fast growing MedTech distributor specialising in advanced surgical technologies. The organisation has a long track record in urology and minimally invasive procedures and is now expanding into next generation surgical robotics. It represents premium global manufacturers and supports hospitals across Spain and Portugal through installation, engineering and clinical excellence. The team is scaling quickly, with clear internal career paths and strong partnerships with national opinion leaders and major hospitals.

You will be one of the first dedicated engineers in a new surgical robotics program. Your mission is to ensure flawless installation, uptime and support for a next generation pelvic and urologic robotic platform in leading hospitals across Porto and neighbouring regions.

You will be the technical face of the organisation and the manufacturer inside the operating room, working closely with surgeons, nurses and clinical specialists to ensure every case runs safely and smoothly.

Key responsibilities
  • Installation and deployment
    • Lead onsite installation and validation of new surgical robotic systems in key hospitals
    • Coordinate with the central engineering team and the manufacturer’s European team for planning and technical approvals
    • Ensure OR integration, connectivity and safety checks are completed before first patient use
  • In-theatre support
    • Provide intensive in-theatre presence during the initial months after each installation
    • Support surgeons and nursing staff during cases, ensuring the system is ready, safe and optimised
    • Gradually reduce presence as case volume stabilises while remaining available for critical cases
  • Service, troubleshooting and maintenance
    • Act as first line for technical issues on the installed fleet in your region
    • Perform preventative maintenance, basic repairs and escale complex issues when needed
    • Prioritise interventions based on patient impact, OR schedules and safety
    • Maintain accurate records of incidents, fixes and upgrades according to internal and manufacturer procedures
  • Demos, evaluations and congress support
    • Support live demos and evaluation periods in hospitals comparing robotic platforms
    • Prepare systems, attend procedures and provide technical reassurance to new users
    • Occasionally support national and regional congresses and workshops
  • Collaboration and reporting
    • Work closely with clinical specialists, sales and engineering coordination to plan coverage
    • Provide structured feedback on product performance, user insights and recurring technical challenges
    • Contribute to continuous improvement of installation and service processes
Profile and requirements
Must have
  • Experience with capital medical equipment in the operating room such as laparoscopy towers, vision systems, surgical tables, advanced energy or imaging (MRI, CT, high‑end ultrasound)
  • Strong hands‑on technical skills, confident with complex electromechanical systems and software‑based troubleshooting
  • Direct exposure to surgical environments and understanding of OR etiquette and workflow
  • Native or fluent Spanish and a good level of English for manufacturer training and internal communication
  • Willingness to travel frequently within the region, including periods of very high OR presence during launch phases
Nice to have
  • Experience with surgical robotics such as Da Vinci, Versius, Hugo, Asensus or similar platforms
  • Portuguese and English depending on location
  • Proactive mindset, anticipates problems and acts early
  • Calm, reliable presence in the OR even when unexpected issues arise
  • Strong sense of responsibility regarding patient safety and surgeon confidence
  • Clear communicator, organised and able to prioritise intelligently
  • Be part of a flagship national robotics program at a pivotal moment of growth
  • Work closely with senior leaders rather than being a small number in a large multinational
  • Real opportunities to grow into senior engineering coordination or technical leadership as the installed base expands
  • Daily interaction with leading surgeons and major hospitals, building a strong long‑term MedTech network
