Job summary

Sonoco is seeking an Occupational Health and Safety Technician to organize, develop, coordinate, and oversee risk prevention and protection activities in our facilities in Portugal, ensuring ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 compliance.

You will collaborate on policy, assess risks, coordinate health and safety activities, manage external resources, and promote training on safety and environmental issues to workers and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Higher education degree in Engineering or Environmental Science.
• Level V Professional Certificate (CAP) as an Occupational Health and Safety Technician.
• Over 1 year of experience in the role, preferably in a multinational environment.
• Proficiency in English.
• Training in Environmental Management Systems (over 16 hours).
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Customer orientation and focus on safety.

Responsibilities

• Define the company's general policy on risk prevention and plan and implement the corresponding management system.
• Develop occupational risk assessment processes and design, schedule, and develop prevention and protection measures.
• Provide technical coordination for occupational health and safety activities, ensuring supervision and guidance of professionals.
• Manage the process of utilizing external resources for prevention and protection activities.
• Ensure organization of documentation for managing prevention within the company.
• Promote information and training for workers and others on workplace safety and environmental issues.
• Develop relationships with bodies in the National Occupational Risk Prevention Network.
• Monitor and verify environmental measures and actions.
• Lead/c participate in corrective, preventive, and improvement actions for management systems.
• Comply with safety and environmental rules per company policies.
• Identify areas for improvement regarding food safety; comply with food safety standards.
