Job summary

1GLOBAL in Lisbon is seeking a talented DevOps Engineer focused on Cloud Platform engineering to join our Technology Department. You will design, provision and operate infrastructure across multiple clouds, own automation, networking, Kubernetes platforms and shared services for scalable, secure application delivery.

Qualifications

• Fluency in English essential for this role.
• 5+ years building and operating cloud infrastructure with strong AWS experience; OCI exposure is a plus.
• Extensive experience with Terraform and large-scale modular architectures.
• Experience with Terragrunt and/or Terramate desirable.
• Strong operational knowledge of Kubernetes and managed services (EKS/OKE).
• Knowledge of Crossplane (XRDs/Compositions) and provider integrations.
• Deep understanding of cloud networking (VPCs, routing, firewalls, load balancers).
• Experience with Istio or similar service mesh for traffic management and observability.
• Experience operating shared infra services like Kafka, Vault, ingress controllers, API gateways.

Responsibilities

• Design, provision and operate infrastructure across multiple clouds (AWS, OCI, OCI/others) using IaC.
• Operate managed Kubernetes environments (EKS/OKE) ensuring scalability and security.
• Develop reusable infrastructure abstractions with Terraform, Terragrunt, Terramate and Crossplane.
• Deploy and maintain managed cloud services (RDS, object storage, networking).
• Build and operate shared platform components (Kafka, Vault, ingress controllers, APIs).
• Design secure cloud networking (VPCs, routing, load balancers, firewalls).
• Implement service meshes (Istio) for secure, observable traffic management.
• Implement identity and access controls using Keycloak and cloud IAM; policy-as-code.
• Embed security controls with least-privilege, secrets management and governance.

As a DevOps/Cloud Platform Engineer, you'll build and evolve the infrastructure platform that powers our engineering teams across multiple cloud providers. You'll own the automation, networking, Kubernetes platforms, and shared services that enable secure, scalable, and reliable application delivery.

• Design and operate service mesh technologies (e.g., Istio) to provide secure service-to-service communication, observability, and traffic management
• Implement and maintain identity and access solutions using Keycloak, cloud IAM services, and API gateways to provide secure authentication and authorization
• Embed security into the platform through policy enforcement, least-privilege access, secrets management, and policy-as-code

• Extensive experience with Terraform, including large-scale modular architectures.
• Experience with Terragrunt and/or Terramate is highly desirable.
• Strong operational knowledge of Kubernetes, including managed services such as Amazon EKS and Oracle OKE.
• Solid understanding of Kubernetes architecture, including Operators, CSI, CNI, scheduling, networking, storage, and lifecycle management.
• Experience building infrastructure abstractions with Crossplane, including Composite Resources (XRDs), Compositions, and provider integrations.
• Deep understanding of cloud networking concepts including VPCs, routing, security groups, firewalls, load balancers, service meshes, and hybrid connectivity.
• Experience deploying and operating Istio or similar service mesh technologies for traffic management, security, and observability.
• Experience operating shared infrastructure services such as Kafka, Vault, ingress controllers, API gateways, and Kubernetes Operators.
• Good understanding of IAM concepts, authentication and authorization, identity providers such as Keycloak, secrets management, and least-privilege design.
• Strong proficiency in Bash and Python for automation, tooling, and platform operations.
• Experience implementing governance using technologies such as OPA/Gatekeeper, Kyverno, or cloud-native policy frameworks.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, high availability, disaster recovery, and infrastructure design patterns.
• Comfortable working closely with software engineers, SREs, and security teams to build scalable platform capabilities.
