Our client is a highly regarded international hospitality interior design practice with an established global portfolio and a growing presence in Porto. They are now looking to appoint an experienced Design Director to join and help lead their Porto studio.

With an impressive portfolio of high-end hospitality projects, the practice is recognised for creating distinctive, design-led environments that combine creative ambition with a sophisticated understanding of hospitality, brand and guest experience.

The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for an established design leader who is equally comfortable leading from the front and getting involved in the design.

Our client is looking for a Design Director who is not simply a strategic figurehead or someone who delegates from a distance. The successful candidate will be hands-on and deeply engaged in the creative process, contributing directly to concepts, design development, presentations and key project decisions.

You will have the seniority and experience to lead teams and manage client relationships, but also the passion and creative drive to remain close to the work.

The Role

The Design Director will be responsible for:

• Leading the creative vision across a range of international hospitality projects.
• Remaining hands-on throughout the design process, from initial concept development through design development and key stages of delivery.
• Personally contributing to concepts, moodboards, presentations, material palettes, spatial ideas and design development.
• Developing strong, original design concepts and narratives alongside the design team.
• Directing projects while remaining closely involved in the creative detail.
• Leading, mentoring and developing multidisciplinary interior design teams.
• Building trusted relationships with international clients, hotel operators, architects and consultants.
• Presenting design concepts and strategies to senior clients and stakeholders.
• Reviewing and challenging design work to ensure the highest creative standards.
• Maintaining design intent across materials, FF&E, detailing and documentation.
• Supporting the continued growth and development of the Porto studio.
• Contributing to new business opportunities, pitches and client development.
• Acting as a senior creative ambassador for the practice within the international design community.

The Candidate

Our client is particularly interested in speaking with senior interior designers, Design Directors and creative leaders who have established themselves within the international hospitality sector.

• Extensive experience within a leading interior design or architecture practice.
• A strong portfolio of luxury and/or high-end hospitality projects.
• Significant international project experience.
• A distinctive and sophisticated design sensibility.
• A genuinely hands-on approach to design - someone who enjoys being involved in the work rather than simply directing others.
• Proven experience leading creative teams and major projects.
• Excellent client-facing and presentation skills.
• Strong conceptual ability and the confidence to develop ideas personally.
• Strong knowledge of interior architecture, FF&E, materials and detailing.
• The ability to balance creative leadership with commercial and operational realities.
• The confidence and personality to lead, mentor and inspire others without losing touch with the design process.
