Intermedia is seeking a data engineer to join an IT Business Systems & Security team in Portugal. The role blends remote work with occasional Coimbra office visits and future expansions to Aveiro and Porto.

You will shape data pipelines using Snowflake, dbt, MSSQL, and S3, delivering robust, well-documented data products for business analytics. You will own pipelines end-to-end, write tested dbt models, and chase data issues from reports to source.

Qualificações

• A degree in Computer Science / Data Analytics or a closely related field.
• 3–5 years doing data engineering, data analysis, or similar.
• SQL with advanced capabilities (joins, window functions, CTEs) and performance optimization.
• Able to read and understand stored procedures and diagnose issues.
• Experience with production databases (MSSQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL) and data pipelines.
• Understanding data flow: raw > staging > consumption and the value of incremental loads.
• Git workflows: branches, PRs, code reviews, and ticket updates.
• Familiarity with Snowflake, dbt, MSSQL, and S3 in production environments.

Responsabilidades

• Handle incidents for MSSQL, Snowflake, and S3 failures and resolve them.
• Run backfills, validate results, and confirm fixes work.

Key Responsibilities

You know that feeling when you finally find the one row that broke everything? Or when a pipeline you built runs perfectly for weeks without a single alert? We live for that.

We take messy data from source systems, move it into Snowflake, shape it into something people can actually use, and make sure it stays that way. SQL is your main weapon. The stack is Snowflake, dbt, MSSQL, S3 — and if you haven't used all of it, that is totally fine. What we really care about: you pick things up fast, you finish what you start, and when something goes wrong, you are the kind of person who figures out why.

Our stack

A typical week

• Build and fix pipelines — ingestion, transformation, consumption, all of it
• Write dbt models that actually have tests and docs (yes, we check)
• Chase down a data issue from the report all the way back to the source
• Jump on an incident — MSSQL job died, Snowflake task hung, S3 file vanished — and fix it
• Run a backfill, validate the results, confirm the fix actually worked
• Help move data from MSSQL into Snowflake without losing anything along the way
• Keep an eye on monitoring so users don't find problems before you do
• Leave things documented well enough that future-you will say thank you

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

• You own your work — no hand-holding, no reminders, you close the loop
• A degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or something similar
• 3–5 years doing data engineering, data analysis, or something close
• SQL that actually impresses people — joins, window functions, CTEs, and you know why that query is slow
• You can read someone'else stored procedure and figure out what went wrong
• You have shipped something with a real database in production: MSSQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or similar
• Layers make sense to you: raw > staging > consumption, and you know why shortcuts hurt
• Incremental loads are not scary: watermarks, MERGE vs INSERT, you know the trade‑offs
• Git is just how you work: branches, PRs, code review — no big deal
• You keep your tickets updated without being asked
• Snowflake: stages, file formats, Snowpipe, performance tricks
• dbt: models, tests, incremental — or you are genuinely excited to learn it
• MSSQL / SQL Server: stored procedures, SSIS, optimization
• S3 / flat files: CSV, JSON, Parquet
• Oracle as a source
• Python for scripts and automation
• CI/CD: GitHub Actions, dbt Cloud, or whatever gets the job done

AI tools

• You already use Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT — to code faster, debug smarter, write better docs
