Offer Description

A tender is open for the attribution of two Postdoctoral Research Scholarships within the scope of the R&D Unit “Center for Mathematics and Applications” (NOVA Math) financed by the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. (FCT) through national funds under the following conditions.

Scientific area: Mathematics and Applications with specialization in one of the following areas: Algebra and Logic, Analysis, Statistics and Risk Management, Operations Research.

Mandatory requirements: Candidates holding a doctoral degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, or related fields within the scope of research conducted at NOVA Math are eligible to apply. The registration and/or recognition in Portugal of the doctoral degree will be verified at the time of signing the contract. Applicants must have completed the PhD in the last 3 years before the application submission date.

Work plan: The candidate must submit a plan of research work that falls within the themes developed in one of NOVA Math's research groups, namely Algebra and Logic, Analysis, Statistics and Risk Management, Operations Research, and that will be developed under the supervision of one or more NOVA Math members. The selected candidate will have to collaborate and actively participate in the activities of a research group and/or a thematic line of NOVA Math.

Place and duration: Work will be carried out at the Center for Mathematics and Applications, hosted at the Department of Mathematics, located in NOVA School of Science and Technology, NOVA University Lisbon (NOVA FCT). The scholarship is for an expected initial period of 12 months, scheduled to start in March of 2026 and may be eventually renewed within the duration of the project.

Monthly maintenance allowance amount: €1,851.00 monthly.

Selection criteria

The selection criteria shall be as follows:

  • CV
  • Motivation letter and recommendation letter
  • Work plan in one of the NOVA Math research areas
  • Research experience in the topics identified in the work plan
  • Interview (videoconference)

Weighted average: CV 25%, Motivation 15%, Work plan 25%, Experience 15%, Interview 20%. Only the five candidates with the highest score in the weighted classifications of criteria (a) to (e) and with at least 60 points will be interviewed. Candidates who obtain less than 75 points will not be hired.
