Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto procura um(a) candidato(a) para uma bolsa de investigação de mestrado no âmbito do projeto HIPAI. A duração é de 6 meses, com início previsto em novembro de 2026, podendo ser renovada conforme o RBI e o andamento do projeto.

O(a) bolsista desenvolverá e validará soluções hidroponicas usando calor residual e CO2 de exaustão, com avaliação de benefícios ambientais. A posição envolve trabalho na CIETI-LabRISE do ISEP, com atuação no laboratório e visitas

Competenze

• Mestrado em área relacionada com Engenharia Química/Engenharia Ambiental.
• Prefere-se candidatos com experiência em hidroponia ou aquaponia.
• Experiência com cálculo de pegada de carbono ou análise do ciclo de vida; publicações em revistas internacionais com pelo menos duas como primeiro autor.

Mansioni

• Desenvolver e validar uma solução de produção hidropónica baseada no uso de calor desperdiçado e dióxido de carbono proveniente de exaustão de fornos a gás, criando um modelo de sinergia industrial.
• Quantificar benefícios ambientais e económicos por meio de metodologias LCA e Pegada de Carbono, bem como avaliar o potencial de geração de créditos de carbono.

Offer Description

A call is open for the allocation of one (1) Master's research grant within the scope of the HIPAI R&D project – HIPAI Project – Hydroponics for Food Production in an Industrial Setting “ A symbiosis between agriculture and industry”, reference COMPETE2030-FEDER-01685700 – 19267, co-financed by the Innovation and Digital Transition Thematic Programme (COMPETE2030) through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and Portugal 2030. The activities will be developed in the CIETI-LabRISE research group ( https://www.cieti.isep.ipp.pt/index.php?page=labrise ), of the Higher Institute of Engineering of Porto (ISEP), under the following conditions:

1.SCIENTIFIC AREA

Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering and related fields.

2.ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Master's degree in a field related to the scientific area. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in hydroponics or aquaponics, knowledge of monitoring/storage systems for physicochemical characteristics, and carbon footprint calculation or life cycle analysis. Scientific experience with links to industry will be valued, as will scientific publications in peer-reviewed international journals, with at least two of them as first author.

3.DURATION

The scholarship will last for 6 months, starting in November 2026, and eventually renewed up to the limit stipulated in the RBI, or until the end of the project, whichever occurs first.

4.ACTIVITY OBJECT / WORK PLAN

Develop and validate a hydroponic production solution based on the use of waste heat and carbon dioxide contained in the exhaust gases of gas furnaces, creating an industrial symbiosis model that allows for increased agricultural productivity and a reduction in the carbon footprint of the process. The project will include the quantification of environmental and economic benefits through Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Carbon Footprint methodologies, as well as the evaluation of the potential for generating carbon credits.

Research Grant Holder Statute, approved by Law no. 40/2004, published in Official Gazette, Series I-A - no. 194 - 18th August 2004; Research Grant Regulations of the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia – FCT (Foundation for Science and Technology), approved by Regulation no. 950/2019, published in Official Gazette, Series II- Part C - no. 241 - 16th December 2019; Research Grant Regulations of ISEP approved by Regulation no. 495-A/2020, published in Official Gazette, Series II - no. 101 - 25th May 2020; Legal regime of recognition of academic degrees and diplomas of higher education awarded by foreign higher education institutions approved by Decree-Law no. 66/2018, published in Official Gazette, Series I - no. 157 - 16th August 2018; Decree-Law no. 60/2018, published in Official Gazette, Serie I - no. 149 - 3rd August 2018, which simplifies administrative procedures necessary for the pursuit of research and development activities, all in their current wording.

6.SCIENTIFIC ORIENTATION AND WORKPLACE

The work will be developed primarily at ISEP within the CIETI-LabRISE research group, and sporadically at the industrial facilities where the hydroponic greenhouse is located, under the scientific guidance of Dr. Abel Duarte and Dr. Cátia Sousa.

8.SELECTION METHODS AND COMPOSITION OF SELECTION BOARD

The candidate evaluation criteria will be as follows:

• A. Curriculum Evaluation
• A1. Candidate's academic background (area and average grade);
• A2. Research experience, only if related to the profile described for the candidate (area and duration of previous research);
• A score from 1 to 20 will be assigned for each sub-criterion A. The overall score for criterion A will be the average of the values obtained from A1 and A2.
• B. Interview
• The 3 candidates with the highest scores in point A will be invited for an interview, to be scheduled by email, if the difference between the first candidate and the next(s) is less than 3 points. This interview will be conducted via Skype (or another equivalent method). The interview is scored from 1 to 20.
• Final Result
• 100% A for candidates without an interview.
• 50% A + 50% B for candidates with an interview.

9.FORM FOR SUBMITTING APPLICATIONS

• Curriculum Vitae;
• Qualifications certificate/Document proving the title of the academic degree and diploma, the respective recognition when it has been awarded by foreign higher education institutions or document proving the recognition request;
• Proof of enrollment in a Doctorate program or a course that does not confer an academic degree.

If the qualification has been conferred by foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-law nº 66/2018, of August 16th, and any formalities established therein must be completed by the time of contracting.

10.DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS

The reception of applications takes place from 12 to 23 October 2026.

11.FORM OF PUBLICATION / NOTIFICATION OF RESULTS

The results of the evaluation will be disseminated by e-mail, to the e-mail adress indicated in the application file.

12.COMPLAINTS AND REDRESS PROCEDURES

If the result is unfavourable, the candidates have a period of 10 working days, after the publication of the results of the evaluation of applications, to give their opinion, if they so wish, in a prior hearing of interested parties, under the terms in the Código de Procedimento Administrativo (Adminstrative Procedure Code).

The final decision referred to in the preceding numbers may be appealed to the ISEP Director within 15 working days of the respective notification.

13.SELECTION REVERSE

ISEP reserves the right to call upon unsuccessful candidates, in order of ranking, to hire additional scholarship holders within the same project who may prove necessary within 18 months of notification of the final ranking list to the candidates.
