Job summary

Ocean Infinity in Porto is seeking a Data Engineer - Backend to turn fleet data into actionable insights. You will work with data from shipboard and underwater cameras, plus lab imagery, building scalable pipelines, APIs, and backend services that feed AI models and customer-facing products.

Collaborate with product teams and data platform engineers to design solutions, ensure data quality, manage data lakes, and optimize performance.

Qualifications

Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or related field, plus 3+ years as a Data/Backend Engineer.
Strong Python, proficient SQL, and understanding of data structures and algorithms.
Experience building pipelines, APIs or backend services linked to data platforms.
Experience with data lakes and both structured and unstructured data; familiar with orchestration tools.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with product teams, AI engineers and data platform engineers to design solutions.
Build pipelines and integrations moving data between lakehouse, AI systems, and products.
Create datasets for AI training, testing, and inference.
Develop APIs and backend services for datasets and model outputs.
Help AI engineers build small model services and prototypes.
Monitor data quality, identify issues, fix them, and improve performance.
Document your work clearly for other teams.
